Actress attack case; The Supreme Court has granted bail to Martin Antony

Kochi: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Martin Antony, the second accused in the case of attacking the actress. The court rejected the government’s request not to grant bail until the investigation into the murder conspiracy case is completed.

 The order was passed by a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilker.

Meanwhile, the High Court has postponed consideration of Dileep’s plea to quash the FIR in the murder conspiracy case. It was postponed to March 17. The case was adjourned following Dileep’s request for time to respond to the prosecution’s report. A report was filed in the Crime Branch court alleging that Dileep had deleted the information on his mobile phone to destroy the evidence. Dileep will file an affidavit in reply to this.

The decision to avoid the focus area on the Plus One exam

Thiruvananthapuram: A decision has been taken to avoid the focus area on the Plus One examination to be held this year. The notification along with the timetable of the Plus One exam was published yesterday.

The Department of Public education has stated that there will be no focus area after this. With this, the students should learn the lessons thoroughly.

The Plus One exam will be held from June 2 to 18. With this year’s SSLC and Plus Two exams, the decision has been made to discontinue the exam area fixed by the Focus Area.

The 2021 SSLC and Plus Two exams were held based on the focus area. This was because of the covid expansion. Later, the focus area was fixed for the Plus One exam as well.

The focus area is for this year’s SSLC and Plus Two exams. About 60% of the lessons are set in the focus area. The question paper structure is such that the question for 70% marks is guaranteed from this.

The High Court has postponed consideration of Dileep’s petition

Sabarimala festival will be flagged off today

Venmani twin murder case: first convict Bangladesh native sentenced to death, second convicted to life imprisonment

Alappuzha: The first accused in the Venmani twin murder case, Labilu Hasan, was sentenced to death. The second accused, Jewel Hassan, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Both are Bangladeshi nationals. The verdict was passed by the Mavelikkara Additional Sessions Court. The verdict was handed down in a case of killing a couple and stealing 45 sovereign gold and Rs 17,000.

The incident related to the case took place on November 11, 2019. The murder was planned by the accused who came to work at the couple’s house and found out that there was gold in the house. AP Cherian and his wife Elikutty Cherian were killed by beheading. After the murder, the accused stole 45 sovereigns of gold and Rs 17,000. The suspects, who passed away after the incident, were arrested from the Visakhapatnam railway station.

The court found that all the charges against the accused, including murder, trespassing and robbery, had been proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

BSF Jawan shot dead a colleague

Kolkata: A BSF jawan shot himself dead after killing a colleague at a camp in Murshidabad, a border town in West Bengal.

The incident took place at around 6:45 am at the Kakmarichar BSF camp. The camp is located in the Berhampur sector, 230 km from the state capital Kolkata. Head Constable Johnson Toppo tried to commit suicide after shooting another Head Constable, SG Shekhar, with a service rifle.

The two were summoned last year in connection with a police case involving the detention of a farmer at the border. There was a dispute over this when he returned to the post after night duty at the border. The BSF said Toppo then opened fire on Shekhar. Both were rushed to hospital but died later. Officials said a military court had been set up and ordered to investigate. Police have also registered a case in the incident.

Earlier in the day, a jawan killed four of his colleagues at a BSF camp in Amritsar, Punjab.

Court of Appeals upholds death sentence for Nimisha Priya

Sanna: The Sanna appeal court upheld the death sentence of Malayalee nurse Nimisha Priya in a death sentence in a Yemen citizen’s death case.

In 2017, Talal Abdu Mahdi, a Yemeni national, was killed by NImisha and her colleague. Nimisha claims that Talal, who came to Yemen with the promise of help to start his clinic while working as a nurse, was brutally tortured by having his passport confiscated.

In case the death sentence is upheld by the Court of Appeal, the case may be referred to the Supreme Judicial Council, chaired by the President of Yemen.

New Delhi: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who oversaw the ‘Operation Ganga’ launched by the government to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine following the Russian occupation, returned from Budapest on Monday with 6711 students.
With this, the Minister informed that all the citizens trapped in Budapest have been repatriated.

The Union Minister took to Twitter to express his happiness that the youth of the country can go home and spend time with their parents and family. ‘We are delighted to have arrived in Delhi with the final batch of our 6711 students from Budapest. In one week, more than 16,000 students were evacuated from Ukraine through ‘Operation Ganga’.
The Indian embassy in Ukraine said almost all citizens had been evacuated from the rest of Ukraine, except Kharkiv and Sumi. ‘In the midst of shelling, roadblocks, diversions and other adverse conditions, food and water continued to be supplied to the pheasant in the quantities and means available.’
