Monkeypox; Help Desk at Airports: Minister Veena George

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister of Health Veena George has said that help desks have been started at airports in case monkeypox has been confirmed in the state. The help desk has been started at Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumbassery, Kozhikode and Kannur International Airports.

The help desk is started to detect any symptoms and ensure expert care for those coming from abroad. These help desks are manned by trained staff. The minister also stated that isolation systems have been set up in the districts.

Apart from this, announcements will also be made in English and Malayalam at airports. People who have traveled to countries where monkeypox has been reported in the past 21 days should contact the airport help desk if they have symptoms such as fever, rash, or blisters, headache, body aches, muscle pain, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing food.

Those with symptoms should stay at home in a ventilated room for 21 days. During this period, do not come in close contact with pregnant women, children, or immunocompromised people in the house. Call Disha 104, 1056, 0471 2552056 immediately if you notice any symptoms.

The Health Department is organizing an extensive training program for monkeypox prevention. A training program was organized for more than 1200 government and private sector doctors. Apart from this training is provided to doctors in private hospitals, private practitioners and doctors in the field of AYUSH in collaboration with IMA.
Training is also being organized for the employees of the local institutions with the cooperation of the health department. Training and doubt clearing will be held on Monday, July 18 from 11 am to 12 pm. Such a program has been organized for the health volunteers who interact directly with the people such as health volunteers, Asha workers, Kudumbashree workers.

Milma curd and buttermilk prices will increase from Monday

JC Daniel Award to KP Kumaran

Thiruvananthapuram:  Culture Minister VN Vasavan has announced that director KP Kumaran has been selected for the 2021 JC Daniel Award for Lifetime Contribution to the Malayalam Film Industry. The awardee was selected by the committee includes 2001 JC Daniel Award winner and playback singer P Jayachandran, Chairman, director Sibi Malayil, Film Academy Chairman Ranjith, Rani George IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Culture are the members of JC Daniel Award 2001, which is the state government’s highest film award, with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a sculpture.

The decision of the award stated that KP Kumaran is a director who has infused a new visual language and emotion to Malayalam parallel cinema through half a century of filmmaking. ‘Rock’ won an international award in 1972.

The jury opined that films such as ‘Athithi’, which has a crucial place in the new wave of Malayalam films with its narrative style that combines reality and fantasy, and ‘Rugmini’, which won the National Award for Best Malayalam Film in 1988 and was made based on Madhavikkutty’s novel Rugminikoru Paavakutty, are rare visual sculptures in Malayalam film history.

Actor Prathap Pothan passed away

Chennai: Actor and director Prathap Pothen passed away. He was 70 years old. He was found dead in a flat in Chennai. No further information is available. Prathap Pothan was an actor, director, writer, and producer who acted in many Malayalam films as well.
 Pratap Pothan was born in 1952 in an industrialist family in Thiruvananthapuram.

He acted in 95 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi languages. Prathap Pothan has directed around thirty films including Malayalam films Ritubhedam, Daisy and Oru Yathramozhi, Chaitanya in Telugu and Jeeva, Vetrivizha, and Luckyman in Tamil.
