Lottery Case; Kerala filed a counter affidavit to the petition filed by Nagaland

New Delhi: Kerala filed a counter affidavit against the petition filed by the Nagaland government in the Supreme Court in the lottery case. Kerala pointed out that the Nagaland government’s decision to sell the lottery to a private agency was illegal.
Lottery agencies have limited interference in the market. In the affidavit, Kerala stated that it only did to control the violation of the law and that the state can regulate the paper lotteries by law and there is no violation of federal principles in this. Meanwhile, the Nagaland government approached the Supreme Court against the High Court ruling that the Kerala government has the authority to regulate non-state lotteries.

Kathmandu: Earthquake on India-Nepal border. A magnitude of 6.3 was recorded on the Richter scale. There were further movements in North India as well. The earthquake occurred around 1.58 am on Wednesday. Nepal is the epicenter of the earthquake. 6 people died after a house collapsed in Nepal’s Doti district due to the earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. This is what caused earthquake tremors in Delhi as well. Earthquakes were reported in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram.

There was an earthquake in Nepal at around 8.52 pm on Tuesday. It recorded a magnitude of 4.9. It was followed by an earthquake with a magnitude above 6 on Wednesday morning.

DY Chandrachud took charge as the 50th Chief Justice of India

New Delhi:  Justice DY Chandrachud took charge as the 50th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Chandrachud’s tenure as Chief Justice will be for two years.
Justice DY Chandrachud became the Chief Justice after establishing his personality as a Supreme Court judge. Justice Chandrachud succeeded Justice U U Lalit, who was the Chief Justice for only 74 days. The tenure of Justice DY Chandrachud is from today to 10 November 2024.

Justice DY Chandrachud will become one of the longest-serving Chief Justices in the history of the Supreme Court. Justice Chandrachud’s father YV Chandrachud was the 16th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He and Justice KG Balakrishnan have been sitting as Chief Justices for more than two years before this.

Chandrachud, who was the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, took charge as a Supreme Court judge on 13 May 2016. He has been instrumental in virtualizing court hearings and telecasting the proceedings of the Constitution Bench live. The decision to allow women to enter Sabarimala was by a Constitution Bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud. Justice Chandrachud was also on the bench that gave the verdict in the Ayodhya case. Justice Chandrachud has also issued a historic judgment granting permanent commissions to women in the army.

The dissenting judgment written in disagreement with the majority judgment in the Aadhaar case was also noteworthy. It was Chandrachud’s bench that ruled that unmarried people also have the right to abortion. Justice Chandrachud took charge as the Chief Justice when many important cases including the Citizenship Amendment Act, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Sabarimala case were being considered by the Supreme Court.

Governor Arif Muhammad Khan’s lawyers have resigned

Kochi: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan’s lawyers have resigned. The resignation comes after he appeared in the High Court on Tuesday on the university issue. Advocate Jayjibabu, who was the Legal Advisor and Standing Consul in the Governor’s High Court, Adv. Vijaya Lakshmi has resigned. Both have sent their resignations to the Governor.

Meanwhile, High Court judge Justice AK Jayashankar Nambiar criticized Arif Mohammad Khan while explaining the powers of the Governor. Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar said that the Governor’s discretionary powers are limited. He was speaking at a seminar organized by the High Court Unit of the Indian Association of Lawyers (IAL).

Justice then said that the Governor cannot act without the help and advice of the Government and the Cabinet. The IAL seminar was on the Powers of the Governor under the Constitution. A discussion was also held as a part of the seminar based on the day-to-day processes of the Constitution and the discussions that took place in the Constituent Assembly.

Gold hunt again in Karipur; 52 lakh gold seized

Kozhikode: Police seized more than 1 kg of gold which was tried to be smuggled through Karipur airport.
Muhammad Muhiuddin (30), a native of Malappuram Melmuri, was arrested.
He tried to smuggle 1.006 kg of gold mixed in 4 capsules inside his body. Gold worth Rs 52 lakh in the domestic market was seized.

Twitter started charging for blue ticks

Washington: CEO Elon Musk has officially unveiled plans to charge Twitter users $8 per month for a blue tick next to their name.
iPhone users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can now purchase the Blue Tick. Musk also stated that it will be introduced in India within a month.

It is indicated that the blue tick on the existing 4.5 lakh verified accounts will not change.
The action comes after Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and Tesla founder, acquired Twitter. He had revealed the matter of charging the amount the other day. “Those who have complaints can proceed with it. If you want to get a blue tick, you have to pay eight US dollars a month. Pay and authenticate” was the tweet.

Blue Tick is used to identify the accounts of prominent individuals. There was a report that Blue Tick badges will be lost from their accounts if they do not pay after 90 days, but no official decision has been made. After many dramatic moves, Musk bought Twitter for 3.62 lakh crore rupees (44 billion dollars).

The price of the commercial cylinder has increased

New Delhi: The price of commercial cylinders has increased. The LPG incentive has been removed. Increase by Rs. 240 per cylinder. The Center has withdrawn the incentive for commercial LPG cylinders. The incentive was Rs.240. With this, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder has gone from Rs 1,508 to Rs 1,748.

ED seized 100 crore from the house of two Congress MLAs in a raid

Ranchi: A joint raid by the ED and the Income Tax Department on the residences and establishments of two Congress MLAs and their associates in Jharkhand has uncovered unaccounted deposits and cash transactions worth over Rs 100 crore. The raid took place at the residences of MLA Pradeep Yadav from Paudaiyahat and MLA Kumar Jaimangal Singh from Bermo. The ED team also raided the house of Ajay Kumar Singh, a coal industrialist who is related to MLA Anoop Singh.

The CBDT said in a statement on Tuesday that it conducted searches at 50 locations this month, including Ranchi, Godda, Bermo, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa in Jharkhand, Patna (Bihar), Gurugram (Haryana) and Kolkata (West Bengal). The raid took place in coal and iron ore business establishments. Investigators initially found the role of MLAs Kumar Jayamangal alias Anup Singh and Pradeep Yadav.

The Congress is a partner of the JMM-led ruling coalition in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Several business groups are also involved in coal trading/transportation, execution of civil contracts, iron ore extraction and sponge iron production. According to the CBDT, many prominent political leaders are involved. More than two crore cash was seized.

Bihar’s Ugratara Mahotsav concludes with a song by famous Malayali singer Manjari

Patna: The Ugratara Sanskriti Mahotsavam in Bihar came to a colorful end with the ghazal of the famous Malayali singer. This was an event organized by the tourism department of Bihar. This is the first time that a Malayali singer is making her presence known in such an event.
Manjari, who made music her goal from the age of five, is today one of the best singers in South India. Manjari has lent her voice to songs in several films and has won several awards. Manjari first participated in a music program when she was in class 8 with a Kolkata-based music band. Later in 2004, Manjari became active in the music industry. Manjari entered the Malayalam cinema by singing for a song composed by Ilayaraja in the film Sathyan Anthikad. Manjari has also sung songs by famous music directors like Ravindran, Johnson, Mohansithara, Kaitapram, MG Radhakrishnan, Vidyasagar, Ausappachan and M Jayachandran. In the year 2004, Manjari got the award for the best singer of the state of Kerala.

Apart from Tamil and Telugu, Manjari has also sung in Urdu. Following this, Manjari has also received the Sahir and Adeeb International Award for her overall contribution to Urdu language and Urdu ghazals.
Manjari was received with applause by the audience in Bihar as she is well known through many ghazal programs.
Manjari captivated the audience with ghazals like Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo, Hotose Chulo Tum Mera Geet Amar Kar Do. This is the first time that Manjari is participating in such an event in Bihar.

Supreme Court upholds reservation for Economically Weaker Section

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court has upheld the central government’s move to introduce 10 percent reservation for the economically backward classes. The order of the bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit held that the 103rd Amendment, introduced for economic reservation, was not inconsistent with the fundamental principles of the Constitution.

The five-judge constitution bench issued four separate judgments.

Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, who read the first judgment, said that economic reservation does not violate the equality outlined in the Constitution. Justice Maheshwari ruled that financial reservation is not against the fundamental principles of the Constitution. Justice Bela Trivedi, who read the judgment for the second time, agreed. Justice JB Pardiwala also upheld the economic reservation.
