New Delhi:  Rahul Gandhi can get a new passport, Subramanian Swamy’s plea rejected. The court granted NOC for three years. Rahul Gandhi, who lost his diplomatic passport after being disqualified as an MP, had applied for a regular passport. However, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition in Delhi’s Rose Avenue court demanding that the passport not be granted as he is an accused in the National Herald case. But the court rejected the petition.

After three years, Rahul has to approach the court again to renew his passport. Rahul’s demand was to give NOC for 10 years.

Rahul had surrendered his diplomatic passport after losing his Lok Sabha membership. Instead, Rahul approached the court seeking a NOC to get a normal passport. This is because the National Herald case against Rahul is pending. Rahul’s counsel argued that there was no provision related to passport while granting bail earlier in the case and therefore there was no obstacle to granting NOC.

Geneva: The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, had warned yesterday that we should be prepared to deal with a pandemic that is more deadly than Covid.  Now, along with the warning, the WHO has also released a list of diseases that could cause a pandemic.

Apart from Ebola, Sars and Zika, the unknown disease ‘Disease X’ has also been placed on the list of concern.

The ‘X’ factor in ‘Disease X’ is so called because the cause of the disease is not known.  The World Health Organization started using this term in 2018.

Experts also suggest that the next disease X will be ‘zoonotic’ like Ebola and Covid.  ‘Disease X’ can be caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi.  There are arguments that the pathogen can be human.

Other diseases listed by WHO are Marburg virus, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Lassa fever, Nipah, Henipaviral diseases, Rift Valley fever and Middle East respiratory syndrome.
