Operation Sindoor a Fitting Response to Those Who Attacked Innocents in Pahalgam’: PM Modi

0

NEW DELHI: Marking the first anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian Armed Forces, stating that the military action was a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians in Pahalgam.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister emphasized that Operation Sindoor reflects India’s strong counter-terrorism stance and its unwavering commitment to national security. He praised the unparalleled bravery, precision, and determination displayed by the armed forces during the mission. PM Modi also highlighted how India’s ongoing efforts toward self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in the defense sector have significantly strengthened the country’s national security apparatus.

To commemorate the anniversary of the historic operation, several prominent leaders, including PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, changed their profile pictures on X.

What was Operation Sindoor?

Launched on May 7, 2025, ‘Operation Sindoor’ was a major military offensive conducted by the Indian Armed Forces targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). During the operation, Indian forces successfully dismantled 9 major terror launch pads associated with outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The precision strikes resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists. The operation triggered a four-day military standoff between the two nations, with Pakistan retaliating using drone strikes and cross-border shelling. In a swift counter-offensive, India destroyed key Pakistani radar systems located in Lahore and Gujranwala. Facing heavy losses, the Pakistani military leadership (DGMO) reached out to India, leading to a ceasefire and the de-escalation of the conflict on May 10, 2025.

Vijay Stakes Claim to Form Government in Tamil Nadu; Congress Offers Support

0

NEW DELHI/CHENNAI: In a historic shift for Tamil Nadu politics, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today to stake his claim to form the next government.

The TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the recently concluded assembly elections, securing 108 seats. However, the party remains 10 seats short of the 118-seat majority mark in the 234-member house.

Election Results: A New Era

The election results have effectively dismantled the decades-long duopoly of the DMK and AIADMK. Notably, MK Stalin has resigned as Chief Minister after a shocking defeat in his stronghold, the Kolathur seat, to TVK’s VS Babu.

Final Seat Tally:

  • TVK: 108
  • DMK: 59
  • AIADMK: 47
  • Congress: 5
  • PMK: 4
  • VCK: 2
  • Others (CPI, CPM, IUML): 2 each
  • BJP, DMDK, AMMK: 1 each

The Congress Pivot

The Congress party, which contested as part of the DMK-led alliance, made a formal announcement this morning to support the TVK.

  • Autonomy: The Congress central leadership granted the state unit full autonomy to decide its stance.
  • The Condition: Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge Girish Chodankar stated that support is conditional: “Communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution must be kept out of the alliance.”
  • Celebrations: Following the announcement, Congress workers celebrated by bursting firecrackers at the party headquarters in Chennai.

DMK Cries “Backstab”

The DMK has reacted sharply to the development. Party spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai accused the Congress of “backstabbing the people of Tamil Nadu” and “self-destructing” for the sake of two potential cabinet berths in the TVK government.

What’s Next?

While the Congress’s 5 seats bring Vijay’s tally to 113, he still requires 5 more seats to hit the magic number of 118. All eyes are now on the VCK (2 seats), which is currently holding internal discussions, and several independent candidates who may hold the key to the next cabinet.

Vijay’s next challenge will be to prove his majority on the floor of the house as he prepares to lead the state into a new political chapter.

“This is Our Loss”: Rima Kallingal Reacts to K.K. Shailaja’s Electoral Defeat in Peravoor

Popular Malayalam actress Rima Kallingal has expressed her deep disappointment over the defeat of LDF candidate and former minister K.K. Shailaja in the Peravoor Assembly constituency.

Taking to social media, Rima shared a powerful image of K.K. Shailaja with a simple yet poignant caption: “This is our loss.” The post quickly went viral, drawing significant attention from both supporters and critics.

In the high-stakes battle for Peravoor, K.K. Shailaja was defeated by UDF candidate and KPCC leader Sunny Joseph. This victory marks Sunny Joseph’s fourth consecutive win in the constituency. Despite Shailaja’s strong political track record, including her massive record-breaking win in Mattannur during the 2021 elections, she could not secure the Peravoor seat, losing by a margin of 14,453 votes.

Rima’s post has sparked a wave of reactions online. While many fans and Left supporters echoed her sentiment, commenting that “it is Kerala that has lost,” the post also faced backlash from political opponents who mocked the electoral outcome.

Historically, Peravoor has been a challenging ground for the LDF. Though Shailaja won the seat in 2006, she previously lost it to Sunny Joseph in 2011. This latest result underscores the UDF’s continued dominance in the region.
