MSC Els Ship Accident: Company Deposits Compensation

Kochi: Following a Kerala High Court directive, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has deposited ₹5.97 crore as interim compensation for losses caused by the MSC Els ship accident.

The funds will be placed in a fixed deposit in a nationalized bank for one year. The single bench issued directives to the High Court registry to this effect.

The Liberian cargo vessel MSC Els met with an accident on May 24, 14.6 nautical miles off Thottappally and 40 nautical miles from Kochi. The court also ordered the detention of another MSC vessel, “Mans F,” currently anchored at Vizhinjam Port, in connection with the case.
