Idea Star Singer Season 5 Winner : Kalpana Raghavendra

This competition in the past had given us, preview of the abundant and budding talent of singers in our neighborhood … It was a well respected show considering the skill of the participants, judged by an eminent panel. One of the highlight of this show was how it made the audience start appreciating the effort put in by the talent in transforming into a professional singer from a reality show.
However the last season was a terrible disappointment. This is just not an individual’s view but also shared by several malayalees whom I recently came across in Hyderabad.
First, getting a professional playback singer compete against young and raw talent itself created imbalance. Second an acclaimed and well respected musician of this era Mr. Yesudas, pitching for Ms.Kalpana and showering praises for her during a competition is awful. The biggest disappointment was that the praises were showered due to their knowing each other personally.
Third, Ms.Kalpana’s fusion song which almost sounded like Opera music is something most in India and Kerala do not appreciate or understand. The irony was Mr. Yesudas and other standing to that song and giving a standing ovation. Obvious question, do they know how to judge this song?
A reality show cannot be driven by Mr.Yesudas’s standing ovation or his personal preference. It is for the audience to decide as to what appeals to them moderated by the panel of judges. Ms. Kalpana would not have been the choice if not for Mr.Yesudas.
It looked pretty evident when the judgment was made, that Ms. Kalpana had to act tensed on the stage. The entire event was flimsy and orchestrated.
Overall to me and several malayalees, Asianet idea star singer show’s sanity is a BIG question!

ഐഡിയ സ്റ്റാര്‍ സിംഗര്‍ എന്ന മ്യൂസിക് റിയാലിറ്റി ഷോയുടെ ഗ്രാന്‍ഡ് ഫിനാലെ വേദിയിലെത്തി സമ്മാനം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച ഗാനഗന്ധര്‍വന്‍ സമ്മാനിതയായ കല്‍പന എന്ന കുട്ടിയോടാണ് അമേരിക്കന്‍ തിയോളജി പരസ്യമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. കല്‍പന അമേരിക്കയില്‍ ജനിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ലോകത്തിന്റെ കൊടുമുടിയില്‍ എത്തിയേനെ എന്നും മുജ്ജന്മത്തില്‍ ചെയ്ത പാപഫലമായാണ് ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ജനിച്ചതെന്നുമാണ് ദാസേട്ടന്‍ പറഞ്ഞത്.പ്രായാധിക്യം കൊണ്ട് എന്തോ പരസ്പരബന്ധമില്ലാതെ പറഞ്ഞതാണ് എന്നു സമാധാനിക്കാവുന്നതേയുള്ളൂ എങ്കിലും ഇക്കാണുന്ന ജനമെല്ലാം ചാനലിലൂടെ തല്‍സമയം കണ്ടതാണെന്നതുകൊണ്ടും ഇന്ത്യക്കാരനായി ജനിച്ചത് മുജ്ജന്മപുണ്യം കൊണ്ടാണെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവര്‍ ധാരാളമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടും എല്ലാത്തിനും പുറമേ ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് എന്ന ചാനലിന്റെ മുതലാളി മുജ്ജന്മപാപം ചെയ്യാത്തതിനാല്‍ ഓസ്‍ട്രേലിയയില്‍ ജനിക്കുകയും അമേരിക്കയിലെത്തിച്ചേരുകയും ചെയ്ത റൂപര്‍ട് മര്‍ഡോക്ക് ആയതുകൊണ്ടും ദാസേട്ടന്റെ പ്രസ്താവന എങ്ങനെ വേണമെങ്കിലും വായിക്കാം. കല്‍പന അമേരിക്കയില്‍ ജനിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ലോകത്തിന്റെ കൊടുമുടിയില്‍ എത്തിയേനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞത് ചുമ്മാതാണെന്ന് പുള്ളിക്കു തന്നെ അറിയാം. അമേരിക്കയില്‍ ജനിച്ചില്ലെങ്കിലും അവിടെ വളര്‍ന്ന വിജയ് യേശുദാസ് എന്ന ദാസേട്ടന്റെ മകനായ ഗായകന്‍ ഇപ്പോഴും കൊടുമുടിയിലെത്തിയിട്ടില്ല എന്നു മാത്രമല്ല ഒരു പാട്ടുകാരനാക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി മകനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അമേരിക്കയില്‍ നിന്നു കേരളത്തിലെത്തിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു (ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ജനിക്കുന്നവരുടെ മുജ്ജന്‍മ പാപം സ്‍ട്രോങ്ങാണെന്നിരിക്കെ അമേരിക്കയി്ല്‍ സെറ്റപ്പുണ്ടായിട്ടും ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ വന്നു ജീവിക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നവരുടെ മുജ്ജന്മപാപം എത്ര ഭീകരമായിരിക്കും) എന്നത് ചെറിയ കാര്യമല്ല. മ്യൂസിക് റിയാലിറ്റി ഷോകളുടെ അപകടങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റി പലവട്ടം ബോധവല്‍ക്കരിക്കുകയും ബോധമില്ലാത്ത സോ കോള്‍ഡ് ജഡ്‍ജ്മാര്‍ പാട്ടുകാരായ കുട്ടികളെ മാനസികമായി പീഡിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതിനെതിരേ വികാരഭരിതമായി സംസാരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളയാളാണ് ദാസേട്ടന്‍. അമേരിക്കയുടെ ശക്തി കണ്ട് പുള്ളി നിലപാട് മാറ്റിയതാവാനും മതി. എന്തൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞാലും, പാപങ്ങള്‍ തീരുവോളം ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ഇനിയെത്ര ജന്മം കൂടി ജനിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നാലും ജനകോടികളോടൊപ്പം എന്റെയും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഗായകന്‍ യേശുദാസ് തന്നെയായിരിക്കും. യേശുദാസിന്റെ കാലത്ത് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നത് തികഞ്ഞ അഹങ്കാരത്തോടെ ആ ജന്മങ്ങളിലൊക്കെ ആവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു പറയുകയും ചെയ്യും

ലോക മലയാളികളെ മുഴുവന്‍ വിഡ്ഡികളാക്കി ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് ലാഭം കൊയ്തു… ലോക മലയാളികളെ മുഴുവന്‍ വിഡ്ഡികളാക്കി ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് ഐഡിയ സ്റ്റാര്‍ സിങ്ങര്‍ മത്സരം ഇന്നലെ സമാപിച്ചു. ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ഗായകരെയും ഗായികമാരെയും കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ എന്ന പേരില്‍ തുടര്‍ന്നു വന്ന ഈ റിയാലിറ്റി ഷോ വിധികര്‍ത്താക്കളുടെ മാര്‍ക്കിന്റെയും പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ എസ് എം എസ് പിന്തുണയോടെയും മാത്രം ആണ് വിജയിയെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതെന്നുംമവകാശപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഇന്നലെ നടന്ന ഫൈനല്‍ മത്സരത്തില്‍ ഏറ്റവും കുറവു പ്രേക്ഷക പിന്തുണയും (ആകെ 19000 എസ് എം എസ്) ഉച്ചാരണ ശുദ്ധിയില്ലാത്തതുമായ മലയാളവും കൊണ്ട് മലയാളിയല്ലാത്ത ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി വിജയിയായി ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ചാനലുകാരുടെ ഭാഷയില്‍ പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ മത്സരാര്‍ഥികള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ തുല്യത വന്നാല്‍ എതിരാളിയുടെ മാര്‍ക്കിനെ മറികടക്കാനുള്ള എസ് എം എസ് ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ആ മത്സരാര്‍ഥി വിജയിക്കും. എന്നാല്‍ ചാനലിന്റെ തട്ടിപ്പ് ഇന്നലെ നടന്ന ഫൈനല്‍ മത്സരത്തില്‍ പുറത്തായിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ എസ് എം എസ് പിന്തുണയും മാര്‍ക്കും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ( മനു-45000, മ്മൃദുല-42000)കൂടാതെ തുല്യ മാര്‍ക്കും നേടിയ എന്നിവരെ പിന്‍ തള്ളി ആകെ 19000 എസ് എം എസ് മാത്രം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കല്‍പ്പന എങ്ങനെവിജയിയായി എന്നറിയണമെങ്കില്‍ ഇതിനു പിന്നില്‍ നടന്ന ചരടുവലികള്‍ അറിയണം. ഇതില്‍ പരമമായ സത്യം വിധികര്‍ത്താക്കളില്‍ ഒരാളുടെ അരുമ ശിഷ്യയാണ് ഈ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി എന്നതാണെന്നതാണ് അണിയറയില്‍ നടന്ന ചര്‍ച്ചകളില്‍ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്. എല്ലാ ഫിനാലെകളിലും അവസാന വിധി വരുന്നതു വരെ രഞ്ജിനി ഹരിദാസ് എന്ന അവതാരക പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ എസ് എം എസ് അയക്കുന്നതിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള നിരന്തര അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥനകള്‍ നടത്തുന്നതു വരെ കാണാമായിരുന്നു.എന്നാല്‍ ഇന്നലെ മാത്രം ആദ്യ ഘട്ട എലിമിനേഷന് മുന്‍പായി കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ കൈവിട്ടു പോകുന്നു എന്നു കണ്ട ചാനല്‍ അധികാരികള്‍ അവതാരകയോടു എസ് എം എസ് അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥനകള്‍ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ നിര്‍ദ്ദേശം കൊടുത്തിരുന്നു എന്നാണ് അനുമാനിക്കേണ്ടത്.റിയാലിറ്റി ഷോയുടെ തുടക്കം മുതല്‍ മാര്‍ക്കില്‍ വന്‍ശരാശരിയില്‍ വിജയിച്ചു വന്ന പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ മുക്തകണ്ഠം പ്രശംസക്ക് പാത്രീഭൂതയായ കോഴിക്കോട്ടുകാരിയായ മ്മൃദുല എന്ന ഗായികയെയും മികച്ച ഗാനങ്ങളിലൂടെ ഈ പരിപാടിയുടെ റേറ്റിംഗ് ഉയര്‍ത്തിയ ഇമ്മാനുവേല്‍ എന്ന ഗായകനെയും ഏഷ്യാനെറ്റ് തഴഞ്ഞത് എന്തിനായിരുന്നു? പ്രേക്ഷക പിന്തുണയാണ് എസ് എം എസിലൂടെ ലഭിക്കുന്നതെങ്കില്‍ പിന്തുണയില്ലാത്ത ആളുകളെ വിജയിയാക്കുമ്പോള്‍ എസ് എം എസ് അയച്ച മുഴുവന്‍ ആളുകളെയും യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ വിഡ്ഡിക്കൂശ്മാണ്ഠങ്ങളാക്കുകയല്ലേ ഈ ചാനല്‍ അധികാരികള്‍ ചെയ്തത്. ഓരോ എസ് എം എസിലൂടെയും ലഭിക്കുന്ന വരുമാനം പ്രേക്ഷകരുടേ പോക്കറ്റില്‍ നിന്നാണെന്ന്‍ മറന്നുകോണ്ടാണ് മര്‍ഡോക്കെന്ന മാധ്യമ ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിയുടെ കുഞ്ഞളിയന്മാര്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തത്. പുതിയ സീസണിന്റെ മത്സരാര്‍ത്ഥികളെ ഇന്നലെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പുതിയ മത്സരത്തിന് തുടക്കമിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. നിഷ്കളങ്കനായ പാവം ദാസേട്ടന് വീണത് ചളിക്കുഴിയിലാണെന്ന്‍ മനസ്സിലായുമില്ല. അതുപോലെ പുതിയ വിധികര്‍ത്താക്കളില്‍ നിന്നും ശരത്തിനെ എടുത്തു മാറ്റിയത് എന്തിനായിരുന്നു എന്നും പാവം പ്രേക്ഷകന് മനസ്സിലാകാന്‍ സാധിക്കുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. എങ്ങനെയും മലയാളികളെ പറ്റിക്കാം എന്ന തിരിച്ചറിവ് മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങുന്നവര്‍ക്കും, തിരിച്ചറിവ് പറ്റിക്കപ്പെട്ടു കോണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും ഉണ്ടാകാത്തിടത്തോളം ഇതല്ല ഇതിനപ്പുറവും നടക്കും.. ഒരപേക്ഷ: ഇനിയെങ്കിലും മലയാളികള്‍ സ്വന്തം കാശു മുടക്കി എസ് എം എസ് അയച്ച് ഏഷാനെറ്റിനെ ഇത്തരം വൃത്തികേടുകള്‍ക്കായി പോഷിപ്പിക്കരുത്

Kalpana ia great singer. Dasettan may be too Innocent on his comment before declaring the final result.

As an average keralite, I believe Dasettan was invited by Kalpana since she is daughter of Dasettan’s friend. So he also obliged to help her indirectly ( he may not be aware of the consequence of his comment. That too before judgement. All the judges have to respect Dasettan and follow his view. I think that is what happened in this event. Hope ISS will make a new rule to sing a song in the competition rather than humming an opera which most of Keralites including many musician do not understand and enjoy. (I am also scared to say THE KING IS NAKED.

I truly concur with your opinion Lizzy. Although I agree to the fact that she sung the opera very well, Yesudas shouldn’t have commented about her before finalizing the result.

As an impartial viewer watching the ISS award function, I was disturbed by the turn of events. I fully respect Yesudas the God of malayalam music industry. But how could he announce before hand that Kalpana’s performance was outstanding. I wondered on what basis she was judged. did the judges know where the raagam & Thaalam for that foreign song was not perfect? Was she awarded the first prize because Yesudas preferred that his friend’s daughter was given the award? I feel that the judgement was NOT impartial. Kalpana is a great singer, I agree. But was the judgement fair? None of the judges obviously had no knowledge in western music. So if they did not know, well it must be perfect because Yesudas said that?
