An Era Ends

The senior music director, Johnson Master, due to a sudden heart attack, passed away today, August 18th, 8.30pm at Chennai. The death of this musician has created a gap in the Malayalam music world that can never be filled again…

The career of Johnson began as an assistant to G Devarajan in 1970s. Later he debuted as an independent composer with ‘Aaravam’ in late seventies. Johnson has composed music for more than 300 films, and he ranks second after Devarajan Master, for achieving such a milestone. He bagged the National Film Awards twice and Kerala State Film Awards five times. He had his own style in composing tunes, and his magical touch made the Malayalam music, rich with melodies that are strong with emotions.

Vellathooval, Ardham, Dasharatham, Kireedam, Lal Americayil, Aa Rathri, Mazhavil Kavadi, Mudra, Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal, Pooram, Pradeshika Vaarthakal, Unnikrishnante Adyathe Christmas, Utharam, Vadakkunokkiyantram, Varavelppu, Vandanam, Aattinakkare, Pandu Pandoru Desathu, Varnatheru (Radham), Aparan, Aryan, August 1, Kudumba Puranam, Nadakame Ulakam… It’s an end of an era… The music world deeply regrets on his departure…
