Amrita Television which had gifted the prime-time pure entertainment option of reality show to the Malayalee audience and elaborated the dynamic genre with avante garde
sub-categories, now adds a totally innovative division to the hierarchy – Laasyam a reality show competition composed wholly for Kerala’s conventional dance form of Mohiniyattam.
It is for the first time in Kerala’s television programme annals that an attempt is being made, to host a reality show for this centuries old traditional art form. Mohiniyattam, the laasya-laden classical dance with its sensuous, swaying movements, is an indigenous dance which has evolved from the ancient temple dances of the devadasis.
Laasyam, a mini reality show meant for special Onam telecast will be an abridged version of the established format, where the performances will be appraised by an expert panel consisting of Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, one of the foremost exponents of Mohiniyattam and Methil Devika, virtuoso exponent of Indian classical dances.
Students, practioners and specialists of Mohiniyattam, the enticing nritya of the enchantress, who are between the age of 18-22 are welcome to participate in the contest.
