Prayagraj: Police have confirmed that 30 people have died in a stampede during the Mahakumbh Mela. 90 people were injured. DIG Vaibhav Krishna confirmed that 25 of the dead have been identified. The initial report was that 10 people were killed, but the death toll later increased.
A large crowd gathered between 1 am and 2 am. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had informed that the accident occurred when a barricade collapsed during the Amrit Snan. Yogi had explained that the government intervened very quickly and provided treatment to the injured.
The government has informed that in case of emergency, the helpline number 1920 should be contacted. The Prime Minister assessed the situation at the Kumbh Mela and directed that rescue operations and treatment should be carried out efficiently. Meanwhile, the bathing was temporarily suspended due to the rush, but has now resumed.
