New Delhi: Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the IT Act Amendment is a step towards a safe and responsible internet. The Central Government has issued a notification amending the IT Act. The move is part of bringing social media under Indian law.
The IT Act Amendment is being implemented with the aim of curbing illegal content. He said that the amendment of IT Act will help in curbing unhealthy trends and prevent fake messages.
Through the amendment, a government-level committee will come to resolve complaints on social media. Grievance Redressal Committees will be implemented within three months. The government claims that the grievance redressal committees are brought in consideration of the safety of the users.
