New Delhi: Black fungus has been confirmed in more than 7,000 people in the country. So far, 219 deaths have been reported. The Delhi government has directed three major hospitals in Delhi to prepare for the treatment of black fungus.

Black fungus, which is found in Covid infected people, has so far been confirmed in about 7,000 people in the country. 219 deaths were reported.

The Center had yesterday directed the states to declare black fungus as an epidemic. The Union Ministry of Health has sent a letter to the states asking them to bring it under the purview of the Infectious Diseases Act.

Although a few cases were reported last year, Covid said the second wave of black fungus cases is being seen in more states. There are more than 2,000 cases in Maharashtra.

In Delhi, there are 35 cases each in AIIMS and Gangaram Hospitals alone. Arvind Kejriwal has said that giving steroids to critically ill Covid patients could lead to black fungus.

Black fungus cases are also on the rise in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar. Meanwhile, the white fungus has been confirmed in Patna. Four people, including a doctor, were diagnosed with the disease.
