136 missing in Uttarakhand tragedy declared dead

Dehradun: The government has announced that 136 people have gone missing after floods triggered by an avalanche in Chamoli, dead Uttarakhand.

At the end of the search, only 60 bodies were found. The rescue operation was led by a team comprising of State and National Disaster Management Force, Army, Navy, Air Force, ITBP, local police, and paramilitary personnel.

The Alaknanda River and its tributaries were struck by flood on February 7 after a part of the Nanda Devi iceberg collapsed.
Workers in NTPC’s Tapovan-Vishnugarh and Rishi Ganga hydropower project workers were the main victims.
