Former Nilambur MLA P.V. Anvar has been booked by the police in connection with an alleged phone tapping incident. The case has been registered under the Information Technology Act and the Indian Telegraph Act. The move follows a petition filed by Murugesh Nagendran, a resident of Kollam, who had earlier approached the High Court seeking action against Anvar.
The case stems from a press conference held on September 1 at the Malappuram Guest House, where Anvar openly admitted that he had intercepted phone calls involving police officials and others. Following this revelation, Murugesh filed a complaint, stating that his own calls had also been illegally tapped by Anvar, and urged the police to investigate.
Despite the complaint, the police initially failed to take any action, prompting Murugesh to escalate the matter to the High Court. Subsequently, the court directed the police to register a case against Anvar, which has now been done.
