Chennai: Actress and model Meera Mithun has been arrested for making derogatory remarks against Dalits through social media. The comments, originally made in 2021, had previously led to her arrest. After being released on bail, she went into hiding.
In August 2022, a court issued an arrest warrant after she failed to appear for trial. Despite repeated attempts, the police were unable to trace her for nearly three years, prompting the court to express dissatisfaction recently.
She is scheduled to be presented before the Chennai District Principal Sessions Court on August 11. The controversial remarks were made in a video posted on social media, in which she claimed people from the SC community were involved in criminal activities and called for the exclusion of backward community directors from the Tamil film industry.
