Lok Sabha election result; Counting of votes underway, BJP is set to return to power

New Delhi: As the counting of Lok Sabha election polls underway, the Bharatiya Janata Party leads in most of the states. Counting of votes to decide the fate of 8,049 candidates is underway. BJP led in 292 seats while the Congress trailed far behind with 51, according to trends released by the Election Commission for all 542 seats that went to polls.

Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is set to sweep the state in the Lok Sabha elections, trends from the Election Commission show. At 12:45 pm, the UDF was leading in 19 out of the 20 seats, with the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) leading in one seat (in Alappuzha constituency). While BJP won no seats.

Supreme Court rejects plea for counting of VVPAT slips

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea of all slips in the VVPAT machines used for the elections. The petition filed by the 21 opposition parties rejected by the Supreme Court. The petition sought to reopen the verdict of the Supreme Court challenging the sale of 5% VVPAT receipts. The vacation bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra rejected the plea of Chennai-based ‘tech for all’.

A boat carrying football team capsized; Killed Eight

Hoima: Eight people have been killed when a boat carrying a football team was capsized. The incident happened in Hoima, Uganda. Reports suggest that the accident occurred after the thunderstorm.

There is no accurate information about how many people were in the boat. A total of 30 people have been rescued by fishermen and navy.

The boat was in danger from within a short time after departure from Hoima.

The boat went with a football team and fans for soccer matches. Reports suggest that the death toll could rise as the passengers did not wear life jackets.

Arunachal Pradesh MLA and his son including 11 people shot dead by militants. The current MLA and NPP candidate Tiroong Abhou, two policemen and four people were killed. Tiroong, an MLA from Khonsawest constituency. He was fired from Assam by armed insurgents in the Bogwani village during his journey to his own constituency. The attack took place at 11.30 am. All the seven died on the spot. NPP president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanded an investigation for the incident and the Center’s intervention.

Kottayam: Two persons have been arrested in the Kevin murder case. The bail of the two persons has been canceled following the incident. The arrested are Shahjahan and Robin, residents of Punalur. Both are friends of the accused in the Kevin murder case. Punalur police arrested the accused.

The bail pleas of Shanu and Manu have been canceled. The prosecution had filed a complaint in the court demanding the cancellation of their bail pleas. Both Shahjahan and Robin were arrested.

The Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail in the case registered in the Aravakurichi police station for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. About 76 complaints were filed against Kamal Haasan in various controversies.
