Supplyco Onam Fair State Level Inauguration on Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Supplyco Onam Fair will be inaugurated at the state level by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at E.K. Nayanar Park in East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram on Monday at 4 pm. Supplyco has stocked around 2.5 lakh quintals of food grains for Onam. During Onam, in addition to subsidized rice, 20 kg of green rice or lentil rice will be available as special rice at a price of Rs 25 per card.

The quantity of chillies provided at subsidized rates has also been increased from half a kg to one kg. This time, Supplyco has prepared a range of branded FMCG products that are on par with other leading retail chains. Offers and discounts are being offered on more than 250 branded daily necessities.

The district fairs will be organized till September 4.  Fairs are being organized in all constituencies from August 31 to September 4 in connection with a major outlet. In addition, traveling Onam markets have been arranged.

Supplyco had a turnover of Rs 168 crore in the month of July. Subsidized products worth Rs 60 crore were distributed to the public through Supplyco last month. About 32 lakh users relied on Supplyco outlets last month.

The turnover till August 22, when the Onam rush began, is Rs 180 crore. The daily turnover on all working days since August 11 has been over Rs 10 crore. About 30 lakh users have visited Supplyco outlets till August 22.

Total For You Fraud; Actress Roma gives statement

Thiruvananthapuram: Actress Roma has given a statement in the Total For You fraud. The actress gave her statement in the Thiruvananthapuram ACJM court. Roma gave her statement as the 170th witness in the case. Roma had acted in Sabrinath’s music album. Sabrinath made the music album by taking money from the public. Sabrinath also acted in the album.

Roma clarified that she acted because her manager called her during the album and paid her the correct amount. Beyond that, the actress gave her statement in the court that she had no connection with this company. The incident related to the case took place from April 30, 2007 to August 20, 2008. The fraud was committed under the names of Total Total, I Nest, and Total For You. Investors were misled by saying that they had an RBI license.

 The prosecution case states that the fraud was committed by making people believe that there is an investment plan ranging from 20% to 80% based on the investment amount and tenure and that the growth rate will increase with the increasing tenure. The Vanchiyoor police have registered a case in connection with Sabrinath, the main accused in the Total for You fraud case, cheating a lawyer again.

Sabrinath is currently facing trial in nine cases. The complaint is that he cheated them by taking money in the name of online trading. The complaint was filed by a lawyer named Sanjay Verma.

Amoebic encephalitis again; confirmed in Wayanad native

Kozhikode: Amoebic encephalitis has been confirmed again in the state. A 25-year-old man from Bathery, Wayanad, has been confirmed to have the disease. He was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. He reached the hospital for treatment on Sunday. With this, the number of people confirmed to have amoebic encephalitis in the state has increased to eight.

Patients from Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts are under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Of these, six are from Malappuram and Kozhikode districts and two from Wayanad district. Following the report of amoebic encephalitis, precautions have been tightened in Wayanad as well.

Champai Soren under house arrest

Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren has been placed under house arrest in view of the tribal protests against land acquisition for the construction of a hospital. His son Babulal Soren and his supporters, who were on their way to Ranchi, were detained.

On Saturday, more than 20 tribal groups, farmers and landowners had called for a protest by ploughing fields and planting saplings at the site proposed for the Rs 1,074 crore RIMS-2 hospital.

Soren said that the move to place him under house arrest for supporting the RIMS-2 tribals and their protest is anti-democratic.

Thiruvananthapuram: In the sensational Kerala gold smuggling case involving accused Swapna Suresh, the Customs Department has imposed penalties totaling ₹12 crore on former UAE Consulate officials. Both the former Consul General and the Admin Attaché (ex-Charge d’Affaires) were fined ₹6 crore each.

The prosecution move comes as part of ongoing legal proceedings. The information surfaced through an RTI reply obtained by Kochi resident Govindan Namboothiri. However, details of whether the fines were paid remain undisclosed.

The gold smuggling through the Thiruvananthapuram airport had triggered a major political storm in Kerala, with allegations linking top officials, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s former Principal Secretary P.R. Sivasankar. Despite multiple investigations, the source and final destination of the smuggled gold remain unclear. The case is still under review before the Customs, Excise, and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).

Online Gaming Regulation Bill Becomes Law in India

New Delhi: The Online Gaming Regulation Bill has officially become law after President Droupadi Murmu signed it, following its passage in both Houses of Parliament amid opposition protests.

The law bans all real-money online gaming services, prescribing up to three years’ imprisonment and fines of up to ₹1 crore for facilitators. Advertisers of such platforms face up to two years in jail and fines of ₹50 lakh. Financial institutions are prohibited from processing payments related to betting or real-money gaming.

The bill empowers the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) as the nodal regulator, with authority to block illegal or unregistered platforms. The move follows the government’s earlier decisions to impose 28% GST on online gaming (October 2023) and a 30% tax on winnings from FY 2024-25.

Police officials told AFP that the arrest followed questioning over his September 2023 trip to London. Wickremesinghe attended a ceremony honoring his wife, Maitri, at the University of Wolverhampton during the visit, which allegedly involved the use of state resources for personal purposes.

Authorities claim government funds were used for his travel expenses and security personnel, while Wickremesinghe earlier maintained that his wife had privately financed the trip. He is expected to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate. New Delhi: A wave of memes has swept across X and Reddit after some users claimed they could access the TikTok website in India, even though the app remains unavailable on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. However, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has clarified that the TikTok website is blocked across all internet service providers in India. Social media platforms buzzed with humor, surprise, and nostalgia over the alleged development.

According to an update by NDTV Profit, the DoT confirmed that the TikTok website remains blocked on all ISPs in India.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has not issued any official confirmation or response regarding changes to the platform’s availability in India.

Background: TikTok was banned in India in June 2020 as part of a crackdown on 59 mobile applications following the deadly clash with Chinese forces in Galwan, which claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers.
