Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren has been placed under house arrest in view of the tribal protests against land acquisition for the construction of a hospital. His son Babulal Soren and his supporters, who were on their way to Ranchi, were detained.
On Saturday, more than 20 tribal groups, farmers and landowners had called for a protest by ploughing fields and planting saplings at the site proposed for the Rs 1,074 crore RIMS-2 hospital.
Soren said that the move to place him under house arrest for supporting the RIMS-2 tribals and their protest is anti-democratic.
