Chandrayaan 2 in orbit

Chandrayaan-2 is composed of an orbiter orbiting the moon, a lander (Vikram) descending to the lunar surface, and an exploring rover (Pragyan). Heavy rains in the state till Wednesday; Red alert in Idukki and Kasaragod

Thiruvananthapuram: The meteorological department has warned that there is a chance of rain in the state till Wednesday. The red alert was announced in Kasaragod and Idukki districts. An orange alert is in place in Kannur, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. The district collector today announced a holiday for the educational institutions in the Kottayam, Kannur districts. Red alerts have been issued in six districts of the state till July 22 and orange alert in 11 districts till July 24.
Rainfall is continuing in the hilly areas of Kasaragod district. Thirty families have been evacuated from the Madhur region alone, all in the lowlands. Heavy rains are continuing in Katla, Kanhangad, Neeleswaram, and Cheruvathoor. All these areas are flooded. People were forced to move to relief camps after the raging floods in Kanhangad and Kinalur. Damages have been reported from Kasargod in heavy rains.
Dual blast in Pakistan: Six people were killed

Kabul: Six people, including policemen, were killed in two blasts in Pakistan. The blast took place in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan. According to the reports, the attackers were in two-wheelers attacked near police check post. Many people were injured in the attack. The second was the suicide attack. Chandrayaan 2 completes launch rehearsals; the 20-hour countdown begins

Sriharikota: The rehearsal launch of India’s lunar space satellite Chandrayaan 2, was completed successfully last night at the Satish Dhawan Space Center yesterday. The 20-hour countdown started today. It will be launched tomorrow at 2.43pm.
Chandrayaan, slated to launch on July 15, was postponed at the last minute due to technical reasons. The countdown for the launch of the GSLV Mach 3 M1 rocket started at 6.43 pm today. The rocket’s refueling work will begin soon after the countdown. The launch of the soft landing on the Moon is scheduled for September 6, seven days late than the launch date.
Visitors banned for seven days at Sankhumukham beach

Thiruvananthapuram: The district administration has banned visitors from Shankumukham beach due to severe sea monsoon rains. The ban will run for seven days from July 20.
There has been a large amount of coastal erosion in the Shanghukmukham area following the sea wreck havoc. Visitors were banned for seven days after reports of a potential hazard in the area. District collector Gopalakrishnan directed the District Tourism Promotion Council to ensure safety in the coastal area. Police have also been instructed to ensure security.
Delhi Former CM Sheila Dikshit passes away

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit passed away. She was the former Governor of Kerala.
She succumbed to heart attack on Saturday at 4 pm. Sheila became the second woman chief minister of Delhi. She is currently the Delhi PCC president. Sheila Dikshit, who contested New Delhi assembly seat from 1998 to 2013, became the chief minister in Delhi. She was a strong presence in the election campaign too.
Sheila Dikshit was sworn in as Kerala Governor on March 11, 2014, after the Narendra Modi government, assumed office. The resignation was made following attempts by government officials to remove the 12 governors.
She was born on 31 March 1938 in Kapurthala, British India. Her husband is the late Vinod Dixit. Children: Sandeep Dikshit and Latika Dikshit.
