Online registration for the International Film Festival of Kerala begins today

Online registration for the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala will begin today. The fair will be held from December 6 to 13 at Thiruvananthapuram. The delegate fee for the general category is Rs 1000. The fair will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 6 at 6 pm. Actress Sarada will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Argentine filmmaker Fernando Solanes. The prize money is Rs. 5 Lakhs.

A total of 10,000 passes are to be issued. Out of this, 8500 delegates will have the opportunity to register online. Film and TV society workers can register themselves from November 15 to 25. The fair will also feature a retrospective of Sarada and a homage section dedicated to Lenin Rajendran and MJ Radhakrishnan.

Filmmaker Century Raju Mathew passes away

Kottayam: Century Films owner and former president of Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce Century Raju Mathew passed away here today. He was 82 years old. He died at a private hospital in Kottayam.

Century Kochumon and Raju Mathew’s contributions to Malayalam were many hit films. The name Century was first made on the silver screen in 1982 by Balachandra Menon’s film ‘Kelkkatha Sabdam’.

Karyam Nissaram, Alkkoottathil Thaniye, Anubandham, Sandhyaykkuvirinja Poovu, Kanamarayath, Namukkuparkkan Munthirithoppukal, Nadodikkattu, Aryan, Adiyozhukkukal, Sasneham, Thanmathra are the main films produced by century films. Fahad Fazil’s Athiran was the last film.

It was also his 45th film. The last movie to be distributed in the theater is Manoharam and Vikruti. The shoot of Kunjaldo is getting underway. He is survived by his wife, the late Lily Mathew; Children: Anjana Jacob and Ranjana Mathew.

The Udaya Express coming from Sylhet was colliding with the Turna Nishita on the way from Dhaka to Baindi. The deputy commissioner said the accident happened around 3.30 am on Tuesday. He added that the accident had been caused by the Lockopilot not noticed the signal.

A three-member committee was appointed to investigate the accident. Railway Secretary Mofasel Hossain has been asked to submit a report. The two trains collided while changing tracks at Akhura Railway Junction for Udayan Express, the Daily Star reports.

At least 12 people died on the spot in the crash. Police officer Shayamal Kanti Das said three people died in the hospital. Reportedly, the death toll is likely to rise further as people are trapped inside the train’s coach.

Mumbai: Noted singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Monday morning, is in critical condition following a lung infection. Doctors said the condition of Lata Mangeshkar, 90, is in critical condition and is undergoing ventilator treatment.

Lata Mangeshkar was rushed to the hospital last week due to difficult to take a breath. She was later transferred to the ICU.

Doctors said that the function of one of the cardiac cells was stalled and pneumonia had occurred. She is in critical condition, but there has been some improvement in their condition over the past few hours, according to hospital sources.

Student protests at JNU: Union minister blocked

New Delhi: Student protests at JNU over fee hike, restrictions on hostels and special clothing codes.

The students staged a demonstration on campus. And boycott the graduation ceremony.

The students, who had blocked Union Minister Ramesh Pokriyal from attending the ceremony, reports said.

Students who tried to break the police barricade were forcibly removed. The students are of the view that they will not withdraw from the strike until the new order issued by the university is withdrawn.

The university was closed following a protest led by the JNU student union.

Students in JNU have been struggling for the past two weeks’ alleged price hike.
