Actor Vijay Raaz arrested for molesting his colleague

Mumbai: Actor and director Vijay Raaz has been arrested for allegedly molesting a colleague. The actor was arrested from Gondia in Maharashtra, a news agency ANI reported.

The incident took place at the location of the movie Sherni starring Vidya Balan in the lead role. The actor was arrested on the complaint of a young woman who was tortured. According to the complaint, Vijay molested one of the colleagues while the film was being shot in Madhya Pradesh.

Vijay Raaz has acted in Malayalam movies like KQ and Monsoon Mongoose. Gondia Additional SP Atul Kulkarni said a case has been registered against him in the incident.

Bineesh’s house in Thiruvananthapuram raided by ED

Thiruvananthapuram: The house of Bineesh Kodiyeri, the accused in the financial deal in the Bangalore drug case, is being raided in Thiruvananthapuram. The ED is accompanied by the Karnataka Police and the CRPF. The eight-member team of the ED had reached Thiruvananthapuram yesterday.

Enforcement team officials and Income Tax officials are staying in Thiruvananthapuram as part of intensifying the investigation in the case against Bineesh Kodiyeri. The purpose of the investigation team is to gather direct evidence regarding Bineesh’s Benami transactions and asset information. There is a move to question Abdul Latif, who is believed to be Bineesh’s benefactor, and to inspect his institutions. The ED concluded that Bineesh had invested heavily in various companies with Abdul Latif.

The ED has found that more than Rs 5 crore was handed over to Anoop Mohammad, the accused in the drug case, between 2012 and 2019. As part of this, centers related to Bineesh are being brought under investigation.

Thiruvananthapuram: State Youth Welfare Board Vice Chairman P.Biju (43) passed away. He died on Wednesday following a heart attack at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College at 8.15 am.

Kidney Infections due to COVID went severe diabetes also worsened the condition. He later died of a heart attack this morning. Biju was a member of the CPM Thiruvananthapuram District Committee. 

Director Hariharan honored with JC Daniel Award for lifetime contributions

Director Hariharan won the 2019 JC Daniel Award for Outstanding Contribution to Malayalam Film. The JC Daniel Award, the state government’s highest film award, carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a certificate, and a sculpture. Minister AK Balan said in a press release that the award winner was selected by a committee comprising MT Vasudevan Nair, chairman, director Harikumar, actress Vidhubala, Chalachithra Academy chairman Kamal and culture department secretary Rani George. The committee said that Hariharan, who has been in the film industry for more than half a century, has accompanied the artistic and emotional transformations of Malayalam cinema and has presented films that are milestones in the history of cinema.

Hariharan, who worked as a co-director for seven years. He went on to direct more than 50 films, including College Girl, Rajahamsam, Bhumidevi Pushpiniayi, Panchgani, Nakhakshathangal, Sargam, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, and Pazhashiraja. Directed in 1988, ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ won four National Awards and six State Film Awards. ‘Sargam’ won three national awards, including the 1992 National Award for Best Picture and Popular Film and the Best Director Award. ‘Parinayam’ won four national and four state awards, including 1995 Socially Relevant Film Award. ‘Kerala Varma Pazhashiraja’ has won four National Awards including the Best Malayalam Film Award 2009 and eight State Awards including Best Director. The JC Daniel Award went to Adoor Gopala Krishnan in 2016, Sreekumaran Thampi in 2017, and Sheela in 2018.

Maoist killed in Wayanad clash with Thunderbolt

Kalpetta: Maoist killed in a clash with Thunderbolt in Wayanad. The incident took place on Tuesday morning at Valaram hill in the Banasura hills in the western police area. The Maoists opened fire on the Thunderbolt group, which was on a regular patrol. Indications are that one person was killed in the reverse Thunderbolt shooting.

Police say the other four members of the group escaped. The first information received is that the victim was not a Malayalee. A double-barreled gun and a pamphlet were seized from the victim.
