Seven killed as pickup overturns in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Seven people were killed when a pick-up van plunged into a ravine in Himachal Pradesh. One person was injured in the accident. The incident took place in Mandi district. The accident happened around 3 am today.

On the Mandi-Ner Chowk Highway, a pick-up van derailed from the Kharat Bridge and overturned into the Suketi Khad Falls. All seven died at the scene. The victims were Bihar native workers coming from Ludhiana to Ner Chowk.

Battery fire risk; 70,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric cars recalled

New York: General Motors recalls 70,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric cars. The Bolt hatchback is the 2017-19 model sold worldwide. GM said 68,667 had been recalled.

Of these, 51,000 were sold in the United States. Batteries manufactured by South Korean company LG Chem are at risk. The company found that it could catch fire when charged at more than 90 percent.

The first models of the Bolt, launched in 2017, used LG batteries. This battery was also used in the 2018 and 2019 models. Subsequent models were fitted with American-made batteries.

Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee has passed away

Kolkata: Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee has passed away. He was 85 years old. He was admitted to the hospital on October 6 due to a corona infection. He was hospitalized for about a month. Yesterday, the hospital authorities informed that the health condition of the star is very serious.

‘His life is maintained with the help of life-saving equipment. A 40-day struggle is not enough to heal. “Miracle must happen,” the doctor was quoted as saying by national media yesterday.

The actor was admitted to the hospital on October 6 with corona. He was shifted to the intensive care unit due to deteriorating health but was later reported to have improved health due to corona negative. But yesterday his condition worsened again.

Soumitra Chatterjee has changed the face of Bengali cinema and has worked with Satyajit Ray in over 14 films. The country has honored him with three national awards and the Dada Sahib Phalke Award in 2012.

Soumitra was born in Mirzapur near Calcutta Shialda railway station. Soumitra’s father was a lawyer and a government official. Soumitra, who used to act in school plays, later took acting seriously and decided that was her way. Wife: Deepa Chatterjee, children: Paulami Bose and Sougata Chatterjee.

Sabarimala temple will open today

Pathanamthitta: The Sabarimala temple will be open this evening for this year’s Mandalakala festival. The new priest of Sannidhanam and Malikappuram will take charge today.

There will be no special poojas today. Devotees will be allowed to climb the hill from tomorrow morning. Devotees booked through the virtual queue will arrive for the darshan.

Admission is limited to 1000 people per day. 2000 people will be allowed on Saturday and Sunday. The covid negative certificate will be given by the devotees within 24 hours.

 There is a facility to check COVID for those who do not have the certificate. Bathing in the Pampa River is not allowed. The Department of Health has set up kiosks for Covid testing. The services of doctors and paramedical staff are available. Pilgrims should take the Swami Ayyappan Road. Sanitizing kiosks are available at Sannidhanam, Nilakkal, Base Camp, Pampa. The construction of roads is complete. KSRTC will run 25 buses on the Pampa-Nilakkal route.

The Mandala festival lasts till December 26.

The temple will open on December 30 for the Makaravilakku festival. Makaravilakku is on January 14.

Money deal with Bineesh Kodiyeri; ED notice to four persons asked to appear

Thiruvananthapuram: Four persons who had made money transactions with Bineesh Kodiyeri, who was arrested in a money laundering case, have been asked to appear before the ED on the 18th of this month. The notice has been issued to Abdul Latvif, Rashid, Anikuttan, and S Arun. Of these, Latvif and Rashid had been sent notices earlier but was not present as they were on quarantine.

Bineesh Kodiyeri is lodged in a special cell at Parappana Agrahara Jail. For security reasons, the jail authorities are planning to keep Bineesh in a separate cell in the coming days.

Five Keralites drowned river in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Five Keralites killed in road mishap in Maharashtra. Eight people were injured. The accident took place on the Pune-Bangalore highway at Satara on the Traveler River. The group was traveling from Mumbai to Goa when the accident happened. The tragedy occurred around 5 p.m.

The dead were Malayalees living in Vashi in Navi Mumbai. The van overturned 50 feet below the bridge into a ravine. It is believed that the driver fell asleep and caused the accident. The condition of the injured is not serious. The bodies were shifted to Karat Government Hospital.

Ten million doses of Oxford vaccine will be available in the country by December

New Delhi: The Serum Institute of India has announced that 10 million doses of the Oxford vaccine will be available in the country by December. Adar Poonawale, CEO of the Serum Institute, said after examining the results of the final test that the Oxford vaccine provides accurate protection.

It is likely to get the assent of the Central Government in December. He said that they were ready to produce at least 10 crore doses and would make the vaccine available to India from the first batch.

The Serum Institute of India has contracts with five manufacturers for the manufacture of the vaccine. It was reported yesterday that 40 million Covid vaccines have been produced in the last two months.

Srinagar: Ten killed, including four soldiers, in shelling by Pakistan on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Seven Pakistani soldiers killed in Indian counter-attack Six locals, including a woman, were killed in the attack. Pakistan carried out unprovoked attacks in Uri, Keran, Nowgong, and Dawar sectors. The martyred soldiers were three Army officers and a BSF sub-inspector. Four soldiers and eight locals were injured.

Seven Pakistani military personnel, including two SSG commandos, were killed in the Indian counter-attack, military sources said. Army releases video of Pakistan Army destroying bunkers Twelve Pakistani soldiers were also reported injured.

Two locals each died in Uri and Kamalkotte sectors. Each of the Balakot and Hajipur sectors lost their lives in the attack. Pakistani forces also violated the ceasefire in Ismarg in the Gurez sector and Keran in Kupwara. The army said it had shelled two places in Poonch district.
