Screenwriter Dennis Joseph Passed Away

Kottayam: Malayalam film screenwriter and director Dennis Joseph has passed away. He died of a heart attack at Caritas, Kottayam.

He made his film debut in 1985 with a screenplay for Jessy’s ‘Eran Sandhyayk’. He made his directorial debut with Manu Uncle. He has done many films like Kottayam Kunjachan, Rajavinte Makan, Nirakoottu, New Delhi, Number Twenty Madras Mail, and Nair Saab. The last screenplay was written for Gitajnali which was released in 2013.

He was born on October 20, 1957, in Ettumanoor, Kottayam district. He did his schooling at Ettumanoor Government High School and graduated from Devamatha College, Kuravilangad. He later obtained a diploma in pharmacy.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the central government has sanctioned new oxygen plants in Kollam, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts. He made this clear at a press conference. Out of the 72 new oxygen plants sanctioned in the country from the Prime Minister’s Fund, Kerala got three.

The Union Ministry of Health informed the Chief Secretary that permission has been granted to set up oxygen plants at Paripally Government Medical College, Pala General Hospital, and Alappuzha Beach Hospital. The central government has directed that the oxygen plant be commissioned by the 31st of this month. Funds will be provided by the Central Government. It is up to the state to find a place adjacent to the hospitals and run it.

New Delhi: Though the government has not moved for a nationwide shutdown to prevent a second wave of covid, 27 states, and territories, have imposed statewide lockdown to prevent the epidemic. Some states have extended the full lockdown period previously imposed as the severity of the covid outbreak has not abated.

Currently, 71.75 percent of the daily number of covid patients are from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi. The daily number of patients in Maharashtra was 56,578 and in Karnataka, it was 47,563. The list of ten states is followed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Haryana.

The restrictions currently in place by the States and Union Territories are:

Kerala: Lockdown from May 8 to 16.
New Delhi: The lockdown in the national capital has been extended from April 19 to May 17.
Uttar Pradesh: Curfew and lockdown-like restrictions till May 17.
Haryana: May 3 to 7 in lockdown. It was later extended to May 17.
Bihar: A lockdown has been imposed from May 4 till May 15.
Odisha: A fourteen-day lockdown from May 5 to 19.
Rajasthan: Lockdown from today till the 24th.
Jharkhand: Covid restrictions till May 13. The restrictions were first imposed on April 22 as Health Care Week.
Chhattisgarh: State in lockdown. District Collectors have the power to extend it till May 15.
Punjab: Weekend lockdown and night curfew till May 15.
Madhya Pradesh: Janata curfew till May 15. Permission for essential items only.
Gujarat: Night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am. Daytime control in thirty-six cities.
Maharashtra: Similar restrictions were imposed on lockdown on April 5. It was later extended to May 15. Local lockdown in districts like Latur and Solapur. Strict control in Amravati, Akola, and Yavatmal.
Goa: Curfew from May 9 to May 24. A four-day lockdown was announced on Monday, except for a few tourist attractions.
West Bengal: Strict restrictions on all gatherings from last week.
Assam: The night curfew was lifted from 8 pm to 6 pm. The group has been banned from joining public places since Wednesday.
Nagaland: Partial lockdown from April 30 to May 14 with strict restrictions.
Mizoram: May 10 to 17 in a complete lockdown.
Arunachal Pradesh: Curfew will be in place overnight from Saturday.
Manipur: Curfew will be imposed in seven districts from May 8 to 17.
Sikkim: Restriction similar to lockdown till May 16.
Jammu and Kashmir: Lockdown-like control to date.
Uttarakhand: Curfew will be tightened from tomorrow till May 18.
Himachal Pradesh: Lockdown from May 7 to 16.
Tamil Nadu: Lockdown from today till May 24.
Pondicherry: The lockdown from May 10 has been extended to May 24.

Dubai: The UAE has imposed travel bans on four other countries besides India. Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have been banned by UAE in the wake of covid expansion. The UAE National Disaster Management Authority said the ban would take effect from midnight on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Health Ministry has sanctioned three more oxygen plants in the state. The new plant has been sanctioned in Kottayam, Kollam, and Alappuzha districts. New plants have been sanctioned at Pala General Hospital in Kottayam, Pathirappally Hospital in Kollam, and Alappuzha Beach Hospital. Earlier, three plants were allotted.

Funding for the new plants is provided by the PM Care Fund. The location and facilities for setting up the plant should be identified and installed immediately. The Center also wants the plant to be commissioned by the 31st of this month.
The number of patients in need of oxygen in the state is soaring in the second wave of covid. Oxygen shortages have been reported in private hospitals in Kasaragod and Wayanad districts. Kalpetta Fatima Hospital has recently reported a shortage of oxygen. The Chief Minister had also written to the Prime Minister showing that it was difficult to share the oxygen produced by the state with the neighboring states.

Oxygen plant set up at Kozhikode Medical College

Kozhikode: An oxygen plant has been set up at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The 13-kiloliter plant from the PK Steel Complex has been relocated to the Medical College compound amid rising numbers of covid patients in need of oxygen.

The action is on the order of the Collector under the Disaster Prevention Act. The plant was relocated by Uralungal Labor Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS). Kozhikode is one of the districts in the state with the highest number of covid patients. Most of the critically ill patients seek treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

The Collector issued an urgent order on May 1 due to the inadequacy of the facilities at Kozhikode Medical College to produce the required medical oxygen for them.

This work has been going on for nine days free of charge as a public good of the Society. Work to replace the 40-foot-long plant began at 7 a.m. and was completed by noon. The Uralungal Society worked with the technical support of the oxygen plant manufacturers. Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar took to Twitter to congratulate the society for replacing the oxygen plant. Collector Samba Sivarao, NRHM District Coordinator Dr. And Naveen arrived on the scene.

The plant is in front of the new block. The block, which can accommodate 700 patients, has 120 ICU beds. The Collector said that all hospitals need such oxygen plants.

Government approves online sale of liquor

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has given permission for online booking and distribution of liquor at lockdown. The scheme provides home delivery of liquor to those who book online. The government explained that this would prevent the production and sale of counterfeit liquor.

Delivery is only available within 15 km of pubs. Home delivery of liquor is May 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Up to five liters per person can be booked. In addition to the price of alcohol, a delivery charge of Rs 100 is payable.
