New Delhi: The registration of all diesel vehicles in the state after 10 years will be canceled from January 1. The state government has said it will issue a no-objection document for registration and use in other places. The decision is part of the strict implementation of the National Green Tribunal’s guidelines.

At the same time, the state transport department has said that NOC will not be issued for any diesel vehicles after 15 years. In 2016, NGT banned diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in the national capital. The first was the cancellation of the registration of diesel vehicles after 15 years. The vehicles were used in the city after 10 years with special permission.

The decision to strictly implement the NGT directive comes in the wake of persistent air pollution. NOC will be issued for renewal and registration of vehicles at any place where vehicles are allowed to be used after the stipulated period. The NGT has directed the states to find areas with low traffic and improved air quality.

Meanwhile, the state government has permitted the conversion of petrol and diesel vehicles to electric. Expired vehicles are permitted to be driven with special electric kits. The state government will soon empanel the companies that provide such kits.

The only way is to demolish vehicles that are not re-registered to other places as per the central policy. The government has taken steps to provide a fair price to those who abandon such vehicles and to provide benefits when buying a new vehicle.
