Actress assault case: Dileep withdraws petition

New Delhi: Actor Dileep has withdrawn a petition filed in the Supreme Court seeking his acquittal in the case of assault on the actress. Dileep’s unexpected move comes as the trial of the case is nearing its end. Dileep had approached the apex court after the high court had earlier rejected his plea for acquittal.

Dileep said that he was also a victim in the case and wanted to be removed from the list of accused. The trial of the case, which examined more than 200 witnesses, is in its final stages. The pronouncing of the verdict in the case was extended in the context of covid. The Supreme Court had directed that the verdict be pronounced within six months of the completion of the trial.
