Chennai: Tamil Nadu has tightened restrictions in the wake of rising corona cases.
The government has come up with strict restrictions ahead of the Pongal celebrations in the state. The Chief Minister said that all celebrations and gatherings related to Pongal should not be held across the state under the present circumstances.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that the Pongal celebrations will start from January 14 and all public and private celebrations will be postponed. It is advised not to hold anything like Pongal events, rallies, and religious gatherings in colleges till further notice.

Night control is from 10 pm to 5 am. Shops, hotels, and businesses will not be allowed to operate during this time. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin, decided to allow only essential services.

Schools will be closed from tomorrow as part of the restrictions. Continuing education is available online for grades one through nine. As of Tuesday, 121 people in Tamil Nadu had been confirmed to have Omicron.

People should be allowed only 50 percent of the seats on public transport such as bus, train, and metro. The night curfew will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. There will only be online classes for students in grades one through nine. Offline classes are allowed for 10th and 12th-grade students only.

Ahmedabad: Six people have died after inhaling poisonous gas in Surat, Gujarat. Authorities said 20 people were hospitalized. The gas leaked from the gas tanker. The accident took place in the GIDC area of Surat. The gas leaked from a tanker belonging to a private company. The condition of those admitted to the hospital is critical. The Surat district collector and others were rushed to the hospital.

Six more families to be rehabilitated in Kavalappara: Rs 36 lakh sanctioned from CM’s relief fund

Thiruvananthapuram: An amount of `36 lakh has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for the rehabilitation of six more families in the worst affected areas of Kavalappara which were affected by the floods and subsequent landslides in 2019. The family will be given Rs. 6 lakh each to buy habitable land and pay for housing. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting held today.

Six endangered families will be relocated to the Vellakatte area of Vazhikkadavu village near Kavalappara. The action was taken on the basis of a joint inspection by the District Soil Conservation Officer and the District Geologist on the recommendation of the District Disaster Management Authority to relocate these families from the endangered area.

Earlier, the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund had provided housing assistance to 462 families, including those who lost their homes and land due to floods, landslides, and mudslides, and those whose houses were left uninhabitable following the floods and those who were recommended for relocation by the Geology team.

The Cabinet also decided to provide Rs. 10 lakh to the family of Home Guard K Manoharan of the Fire and Rescue Services Department, who died while undergoing treatment for an accident while on duty. It was also decided at the cabinet meeting held today to appoint six on a re-appointment basis.

The Central Government has revised the guidelines for covid victims who are under home surveillance

New Delhi: The Center has revised the guidelines for home surveillance of covid sufferers. The Ministry of Health has recommended home monitoring for covid patients with minor or no symptoms at all.

According to the revised guidelines, if there is no fever or other symptoms after seven days of observation, there is no need to test again. The new guidelines also outline the precautions to be taken by patients and their caregivers during their observation period.

New RTPCR test kit to detect omicron variant

New Delhi: A new RTPCR test kit has been developed to detect the Omicron variant in the face of an increasing number of Omicron cases in the country. The test kit has been jointly developed by ICMR and Tata Medical Ad Diagnostics. The test results will be released in four hours. The ICMR chief was speaking at a press conference held by the Ministry of Health. Informed that Balram Bhargava has developed the kit.

The Union Health Ministry said it was concerned about the sharp rise in covid cases in the country. In 28 districts, the test positivity rate is above 10 percent. The number of people receiving treatment in six states has crossed 10,000, according to the Ministry of Health.

Thiruvananthapuram: The wife of the late film actor Rajan P Dev has been arrested in a domestic violence case. Shantha, who was present at the Nedumangad SP office, will be released on bail.

 Santha is the second accused in the suicide case of her daughter-in-law Priyanka. They were charged with incitement to suicide and domestic violence. Priyanka’s husband Unni P Dev was arrested by the police on May 25, 2021.

Priyanka was found dead inside her house in Vembayam on April 13, 2021. The complaint was that Unni and Shanta were constantly harassing Priyanka in the name of dowry. Priyanka had a quarrel with Unni and was staying in her own house. According to the complaint, Unni had threatened Priyanka over the phone in the name of dowry.

The DCGA panel of experts has approved the further trial of the vaccine of Bharat Biotech, which can be given through the nose. The vaccine will be available in March after the trial. Meanwhile, Covid and Omicron cases are on the rise in the country. Maharashtra and Delhi have the highest number of covid cases reported.

Hong Kong bans flights from seven countries, including India

Hong Kong: Hong Kong has banned flights from seven countries, including India. Australia, Canada, France, Pakistan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States, and India are all barred from entering.

The reason for such restrictions is the rising number of Omicron and covid cases in these countries. Bars and gyms have been closed and parcels out of restaurants following reports by Omicron in Hong Kong City. So far, 114 Omicron cases have been reported in Hong Kong.

In this case, 21 days of compulsory quarantine was imposed on those coming from outside the country. As Hong Kong is a major city in China, quarantine facilities and large-scale inspections have been introduced. Arrangements have also been made for a lockdown if required.

Thiruvananthapuram: The covid review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has decided to limit weddings, posthumous ceremonies, and other socio-political, cultural, and community events to 75 in closed rooms and 150 in open spaces in the wake of the Omicron expansion.

The covid test of people from all countries at airports should be strengthened. Those who have not yet applied for covid death funding should apply immediately. The Chief Minister directed the officials not to delay the process on the applications received.

There has been an increase in omicron cases. At present, there are 181 Omicron infected in Kerala. About 80 percent of the people in the state have been vaccinated with the second dose. 15.43 lakh children are eligible for the vaccine. Of these, 2% were vaccinated. Currently, the vaccine stock is adequate. Steps are being taken to vaccinate children. The Department of Health will release a treatment protocol for those undergoing covid treatment at home in the event of an Omicron outbreak.

Actress assault case: Application filed by prosecution seeking further inquiry postponed

Kochi: The court has adjourned till January 20 the petition filed by the prosecution seeking a further inquiry into the actress’ assault case.

The prosecution has filed an application seeking further investigation against actor Dileep in the case. The trial court in the case considered the prosecution’s application. In the wake of the revelations made by director Balachandra Kumar, the prosecution demanded a further investigation and adjournment of the ongoing trial.
While considering the petition today, the police submitted to the court the revelations made by Balachandra Kumar yesterday. The court has been directed to inquire into the matter and submit a report before the 20th.

The court orally noted that it was also time to appoint a new prosecutor in the event that the second prosecutor resigned, alleging that the trial court’s position under the witness examination weakened the prosecution.
