Covid outbreak intensifies in the state; Regulation of religious ceremonies

Thiruvananthapuram: Restrictions are being tightened in the wake of covid spread in the state. In districts above 20 TPR, only 50 people are allowed in religious ceremonies.

The daily increase in the number of patients and the sharp rise in TPR are of great concern.

Earlier, the number of people attending events, including weddings and funerals, had been fixed. As the spread of the disease intensified, restrictions were imposed on religious ceremonies. The decision comes in the backdrop of the upcoming festive season. The government estimates that the spread of the disease can be curbed to some extent through mob control. The steep rise in TPR is creating a major crisis. In three days, the TPR rose by about 10 percent.

The health department has warned that the spread of the disease will intensify in the next three weeks. There were more than a thousand patients in five districts yesterday. Yesterday’s were 4694 in Thiruvananthapuram and 2637 in Ernakulam. More and more health care professionals are diagnosing the disease and creating a crisis. The health department estimates that there are 78 active coward clusters in the state. The number of Omicron patients is also increasing day by day. With 48 more confirmed cases, the total number of Omicron patients rose to 528.

The courts in the state will be working online from tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The courts in the state will work online from Monday. The proceedings of the High Court and the lower courts are being streamlined online in the wake of the covid expansion. The High Court issued a circular in this regard. The public will also be restricted from entering the courts.

Only in unavoidable cases will the case be heard directly. Only a maximum of 15 people will be allowed to enter the court. The District Magistrate should look into the matter. The decision was taken by the High Court in a full-court sitting chaired by the Chief Justice. The Bar Council and the Advocates’ Association were also consulted on making the court proceedings online.

Six arrested with banned currency

Dehradun: Six arrested in Uttarakhand with banned currency. The Special Task Force (STF) raided Haridwar ahead of the Uttarakhand Assembly elections and nabbed them with old notes worth Rs. 4,50, 00, 000.

Three of the arrested are from Haridwar and the rest are from Uttar Pradesh. The senior superintendent of the special task force said a detailed investigation into the incident was underway.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Flying Squad had seized Rs. 50 lakh from a car during a search in Kanpur.

Lockdown in Tamil Nadu today; Restaurants are only allowed takeaway services

Chennai: Tamil Nadu today announced a complete lockdown in the state to tighten controls to prevent covid. The lockdown was imposed on Sunday as part of restrictions from January 9th. Restaurants are only allowed takeaway services from 7 am to 10 pm. Essential service workers are allowed to continue working. Police said they would seize the vehicles of those who left unnecessarily.

Public transport services in the state have been suspended. There is a lockdown on Sunday but you are allowed to attend family functions including weddings. Only 100 people are allowed. Other covid restrictions, including the partial closure of schools, kindergartens, and coaching centers and restrictions on public transport, have been extended until January 31.

A night curfew has been in place in the state since January 6. All places of worship across the state will be closed from January 14 to 18 to prevent crowds. Meanwhile, covid had confirmed 23,978 more people in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. This is the second day in a row that the number has risen to over 23,000 per day. Eleven deaths were reported on Saturday.

Covid; West Bengal extends restrictions

Kolkata: West Bengal has extended restrictions in the wake of the covid outbreak. The restrictions have been extended till January 31. The stadiums are allowed to open with restrictions. Up to 200 people can attend the wedding.

Meanwhile, the state Election Commission has postponed the local body elections in West Bengal due to the spread of covid. Municipal elections scheduled for next Saturday in Asansol, Bidhan Nagar, Siliguri, and Chandan Nagar have been postponed to next month. The change was announced in a statement issued by the West Bengal Election Commission after discussions with state government representatives.

Online class applicable to all schools: Minister V Sivankutty; No change for SSLC and Plus Two exams

Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the spread of covid, the decision to make the education of children up to ninth class online applies to all schools in the state. The decision applies to all schools including Unaided, CBSE, and Kendriya Vidyalaya, minister V Shivankutty said.

He said in a press conference that the intended result would be achieved only if everyone cooperated. The minister also said that there would be no change in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations. A separate timetable will be prepared for online classes. The guidelines for class 10,11,12 will be updated. The minister added that he has been asked to expedite the vaccination of children.

The minimum charge will be Rs. 10 and Rs. 5 for students; Bus fare hike from February 1

Thiruvananthapuram; The state government plans to increase bus fares from February 1. The recommendation of the Department of Transport was approved by the Chief Minister.

With this, the minimum charge on the bus will increase to Rs 10. There is also an increase in student concessions.

At present, the distance of 2.5 km is Rs 8. This is increased to ten rupees. For the subsequent distance, 80 paise per km will be one rupee. The minimum charge for students will be increased to Rs 5. At present, the rate for students is Rs. 5 per 1.5 km and Rs. 2 per 1 km. The proposal is to increase the fare to Rs. 5 for these two distances.

Travel will be free for children from BPL families. Ordinary buses that start their service between 8 pm and 5 am will be charged 50 percent more.

Sabarimala Darshan; A minibus carrying pilgrims overturned, injuring 10 people

Pathanamthitta: A minibus carrying devotees returning from Sabarimala overturned. The vehicle was traveling from Tamil Nadu when it met with an accident at 3.30 am today. There were 15 people in the vehicle. 10 people were injured. Three were admitted to Kottayam Medical College and seven to Pathanamthitta General Hospital. No one was in critical condition.

Omicron expansion may end within two months

New Delhi: Anurag Agarwal, a member of the World Health Organization’s technical advisory group, has said that the Omicron wave, a variant of the covid variant, is likely to ease by March. There has been a huge increase in the number of cases in the last few days. Anurag added that people who are currently immunocompromised are at higher risk of contracting the disease and that Omicron could spread to rural areas after spreading in the metros.
