Zubair murder: DGP urges vigilance to avoid further violence

0

Palakkad: DGP Anil Kant has directed the district police chiefs to be vigilant to prevent further violence in the wake of the killing of SDPI activist Zubair in Elappully.

The SDPI had alleged that the RSS was behind the murder.

Zubair’s father, Abu Bakar, had said that two people had attacked him. But he said he could not figure out how many people were in the mob. It is learned that Zubair was attacked by four persons who were wearing masks and the police have received a witness statement.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan, meanwhile, lashed out at the state government and the chief minister over the killings. Murders are constantly taking place in the name of communalism. The Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the Home Department, forgot to rule. The Chief Minister is carrying out communal appeasement in the name of social engineering.

The government is unable to take strong action against communal forces and aggressors. No one has any control. The government is keeping a close eye on the efforts of various communal organizations to create communal polarization. Satheesan also said that the Chief Minister should still have control over the Home Department.

Zubair was attacked around 1.30 pm today. Zubair was attacked in front of his father Abu Bakar when he returned after the Friday prayers. The initial conclusion is that Zubair suffered cuts to his arms, legs, and head. Zubair was rushed to the district hospital but could not be saved.

Contractor suicide; Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa resigns

0

Bangalore: Karnataka Rural Development Minister KS Eshwarappa has resigned amid allegations of bribery. The resignation comes at the end of days of austerity and opposition protests. The move by the central leadership to force the resignation of the minister will further cut the BJP.

Ishwarappa’s resignation comes with the announcement that he will not create a crisis for the BJP leadership and the government. The resignation letter was handed over at the official residence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The BJP is pushing for Eshwarappa’s resignation with the assurance that Union ministers and the party’s central leadership will be caught up in the bribery scandal. But the resignation and Ishwarappa’s reactions will further erode the central leadership.
Groups within the BJP were also outspoken in Ishwarappa’s response. The resignation of the leader from the OBC faction will create a crisis for the BJP in next year’s assembly elections as well.

The bribery scandal that rocked the BJP leadership erupted following the suicide of Santosh Patil, a contractor in Balagavi. Earlier, BJP activist Santosh Patil had said that Ishwarappa had demanded a 40 percent commission on the road works bill when it came to change.
Santosh, a BJP activist, committed suicide by sending a letter to the Prime Minister.

This is not the first time Ishwarappa has been involved in controversy. Eshwarappa was hacked in response to the change of the tricolor flag and saffron flag at Red Fort.

This time, following the news of the bribery, the Opposition staged a huge protest demanding Ishwarappa’s resignation. Opposition groups called for the beleaguered PM to resign.

Gulf Airlines tighten luggage rule; Free baggage limit reduced, more Regulations

0

Dammam:  Gulf Airlines hits back at ex-pats. With the return of the airline to its old level, more regulations have been put in place.

Gulf Airlines has reportedly tightened its baggage allowance by lowering the free baggage limit and charging extra for multiple bags and limiting hand luggage to one.

These concessions are being made to cope with rising fuel prices. Some airlines, which used to offer 30 kg free luggage in economy class, have now reduced it to 25 kg. Different packages are now being offered, including luggage, with and without luggage.

At the same time, some airlines on UAE routes charge more than 15-20 dirhams (Rs. 311-414) for each extra bag if there is more than the allotted limit. Thus, in the past, laptops and other personal items were allowed in addition to hand luggage, but now it is strictly advised not to weigh more than 7 kg, including duty-free items.

Even a kilo will cost extra. Budget airlines have also tightened the rules, but some even allow extra luggage at a cheaper rate when picking up a ticket.

At the same time, some airlines are offering facilities for booking multiple seats (double seat, triple seat) and carrying an additional 10 kg of luggage. These will be cheaper than the airport fare and will also avoid the airport charge.
