Thiruvananthapuram: PC George, whose bail was canceled in the hate speech in Thiruvananthapuram, has been shifted from the district jail to Poojappura Central jail. George is due in jail today after his bail application was postponed to tomorrow.

Thiruvananthapuram First Class Judicial Magistrate Court remanded PC George for 14 days. George’s lawyer said the police report that the hate speech was a conspiracy was a move to avoid getting bail from the high court.

Though the Vanchiyoor court had canceled his bail in the morning for his hate speech, George had hoped to get bail from the high court today. The petition against the cancellation of bail in the Thiruvananthapuram speech was in effect a bail petition and therefore no bail application was filed in the Magistrate’s Court. PC George was hopeful that the High Court, which heard the case in the morning, would reconsider the case in the afternoon. George’s lawyers told the High Court that the arrest was unnecessary. Lawyers asked why the police were questioning PC George in custody and what evidence was yet to be obtained.

But the prosecution asked for time to file a detailed petition, including George’s arrest and related information. The petition was adjourned till tomorrow, allowing time for the prosecution. With this, George will have to stay in jail till the High Court decides. Thiruvananthapuram Fort police have filed an application in the Vanchiyoor court seeking questioning of George in custody. This will be considered on Monday. George’s attorney alleged that the conspiracy was to prevent the High Court from granting bail.

The interim bail granted to George in the Kochi Vennala speech case has been extended till tomorrow. George, who was brought to Thiruvananthapuram from Kochi at night, was produced before the magistrate’s chambers at 7.30 am. George was brought to court under heavy police arrest. George was initially granted bail without hearing prosecution arguments. The absence of the prosecution was controversial. George was remanded in custody today after hearing arguments from the prosecution.
