Kannur: Three policemen have been suspended in Kannur for allegedly accepting bribes from an accused. CI  M.E. Rajagopal, SI P.G. Jimmy, and Grade SI Sarangadharan have been suspended. It was found that they had received Rs 60,000.

It is alleged that they took bribes from the accused in the cannabis case. According to the complaint, the police were paid a bribe of Rs 60,000 to release the vehicle taken into custody in the case.

Rape case; Vijay Babu will not be arrested soon

Kochi: The High Court has stayed the arrest of actor and producer Vijay Babu in the case of raping actress. The arrest was stayed until the next hearing of the case. The court directed that Vijay Babu should not be arrested at the airport if he arrives from abroad. The case was adjourned till another day.

The immigration department has also been barred from making arrests. Central and State Governments should inform this order to the respective departments. The court also directed Vijay Babu to appear before the investigating officer as soon as he returns home.

According to the documents submitted to the court, Vijay Babu has informed that he will return to Kochi tomorrow at 9.30 am. The actor had informed the high court while considering his anticipatory bail application that he did not appear yesterday as he would be arrested. Vijay Babu entered Dubai after the police registered a case.

High Court upheld Adila’s petition; Allowed Lesbian couple to live together

Kochi: The High Court has approved the application of Adila Nasr, a native of Aluva, to be allowed to live with her lover. The High Court intervened in a petition filed by Adila’s partner seeking permission to allow lesbian couples to live together.

Fatima Noora, a resident of Thamarassery, who was abducted by her relatives, was allowed by the court to accompany Adila Nasr. The action was taken by Justice Vinod Chandran, who clarified that it is not forbidden for adults to live together. The High Court also disposed of the habeas corpus petition filed by Adila.

Adila’s complaint was that Fatima Noora, who had come to Aluva to stay with her, was abducted by her family and could not be found. Later this morning, a habeas corpus was filed in the High Court showing that Fatima Noora was missing.

After considering the petition this morning, the high court directed the Binanipuram police to produce the girl in court today. The family then went to the high court with the girl. The court informed both of them that they can live as they please as they are of age.

Adila Nasr from Aluva and Noora from Thamarassery came to the media last day demanding to live together. The complaint was that the family did not allow the two Lesbian couple to live together.

Adila Nasreen, 22, fell in love with Noora, a 23 – year – old woman from Thamarassery, while studying in Saudi Arabia. Despite returning to Kerala, the two continued to fall in love.

On the 19th of this month, Adila reached Kozhikode and met Noora. Both were initially in a shelter in Kozhikode itself. The police intervened when the relatives were selected there. Adila’s parents then brought the two to their home in Aluva.

Meanwhile, relatives came from Thamarassery and forcibly took away 100. Adila said her parents also joined her for this. Although he was taken away saying that he would be produced in court, Adila sought legal help as he did not appear.

100% webcasting to make the election transparent

Kochi: The Election Commission has set up webcasting facilities at all polling booths in Thrikkakara to conduct transparent elections. Usually only half of the booths in each constituency are equipped with cameras. This time all the 239 polling booths in the constituency were set up for this.

The system was set up on the special instructions of Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Kaul to ensure security and make the procedures transparent.

A live view of all the booths is provided through the control room of the webcasting system set up in the Spark Hall of the Collectorate. The control room is under the direct supervision of District Collector Jafar Malik. The Chief Election Commissioner, Collector and observers visited the control room and evaluated the activities.

Chandigarh: The main accused in the murder case of Punjab singer Sidhu Musewala has been arrested. He was taken into custody by the police from Uttarakhand while he was hiding among the pilgrims. He was arrested during a joint operation by Punjab Police and Uttarakhand Police. His name and other details were not disclosed. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has announced a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Sidhu was shot dead in Mansa, Jawaharlal Nehru Punjab. Sidhu and his friends were traveling in a car when an unidentified group opened fire on them. Three people, including Sidhu, were seriously injured in the shooting.

Kochi: Six postal votes were allotted for the Thrikkakara by-election this time. Postal votes are allotted to officials who are directly involved in the election process. None of the allotted votes have been returned so far.

Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot (ETPB) or Service Votes are issued to officers serving in the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The constituency has been allotted 83 service votes in connection with the by-elections. Of these, three votes were returned. Postal and service votes received until 7.59 am on June 3, the counting day, will be considered for counting.
