Gun attacks: New York tightened gun laws

New York: The governor of New York has tightened gun laws in the wake of the genocide at a supermarket in Buffalo. The age for purchasing a semi-automatic rifle has been raised from 18 to 21. Kathy Hochul has approved a package of gun reform laws passed by the state Senate in the wake of last month’s shooting deaths of 10 people.

These measures were intensified while increasing massacres in the US. Peyton Gendron, 18, has revealed that he shot and killed an employee at Tops Friendly Market with an AR-15 rifle he had legally purchased.

The revised gun law states that a permit must now be obtained for the purchase of semiautomatic rifles. Democratic New York already has some of the strongest gun laws in the United States.

U.S. President Joe Biden has approved new gun control legislation, including a ban on weapons.

Increase in covid cases: Health Minister says vaccination of children will be expedited

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has said that precautionary measures are being expedited because of the increasing number of covid cases in the state. Currently, the Omicron variant is spreading. It is reassuring that no new variants have been reported. However, the minister said that the vaccination process would be expedited. Speaking to media persons in Thiruvananthapuram, the minister said that the vaccination of children will be done in schools in collaboration with the education department.

At the same time, the minister added that the investigation will continue to be vigorous in reporting food poisoning in the state. She added that there would be no compromise on the inspection and legal action would be taken if any shortcomings were found.
There is a need for timely reform in the mental health centers in the state. A special meeting was convened for this. Four new staff have been hired for security. She said efforts were being made to implement a rehabilitation plan for those who had undergone treatment.

Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir; Two terrorists were killed

Kupwara: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a clash with security forces on Tuesday morning in Chaktaras Kandi area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir Zone Police said one of the two killed was Tufail, a Pakistani national.

The clashes between the militants and the security forces started this morning. Another Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked Pakistani militant was killed in a clash in Baramulla district on Monday.

Vijay Babu’s anticipatory bail has been postponed to Friday

Kochi: The High Court has adjourned till Friday the hearing of the anticipatory bail application of producer Vijay Babu in the case of rape of an actress.

The ADGP, who is overseeing the investigation of the case, has asked the court to adjourn the hearing of the case to Friday as he remains in quarantine. The court granted bail and adjourned the case till Friday.

Earlier, the prosecution had told the court that Vijay Babu, who was abroad, needed further questioning. The case was adjourned till today.

Vijay Babu, who was in Dubai, arrived in Kochi last week on the instructions of the High Court. The investigation team then called the police station and questioned them. Vijay Babu said that he had a consensual sexual relationship and was complaining when he was denied an opportunity in the film.

Heavy rains in the state for the next five days; Yellow alert in eight districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains with thunder and lightning in the state for the next five days. Isolated heavy rain is also likely on June 7,8,9. A yellow alert has been declared in eight districts today.

The yellow alert was issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts today. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast light rains in other districts. Extreme winds of up to 40 km/hr are expected.

The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains with thunderstorms in Kerala for the next five days. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rains on June 7, 8, and 9.

Yellow alert for Idukki, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts tomorrow. 

Passengers can now book 24 train tickets per month online

New Delhi: Railway passengers can now book more tickets online. Indian Railways’ new decision is part of its efforts to provide more facilities to passengers. Under the new order, the number of tickets that can be booked online per person per month has been increased to 24.

Those who are not linked to Adhar can book up to a maximum of 12 tickets a month. Those who were previously connected to Aadhaar could only book six tickets a month and those who were not 12 a month. The decision of the Railways was taken because of the constant demand of the passengers to change this limit.

Shigella was also confirmed in the Palakkad district

Palakkad: Shigella’s confirmation again raises concern in the state. Shigella disease was confirmed in Palakkad.  The district medical officer said Shigella bacteria was the cause of food poisoning in two places in the district. Shigella’s presence was confirmed by testing the blood and feces of those treated at the hospital for food poisoning. The health department has warned the public to be vigilant.

Daughter beats mother brutally: Human Rights Commission

Kollam: The Human Rights Commission has ordered an inquiry into a complaint that a sick mother was tied up and beaten by her daughter in Pathanapuram.

Commission member VK Beenakumari issued the order to the Kollam Rural District Police Chief. The report should be submitted within 15 days.

A member of the Nadukunnam ward of Pathanapuram panchayath, who was questioned about the harassment, also complained that he was attacked.

Leena’s mother was beaten by Leena at her house in Palappally on Sunday afternoon. It is said that the harassment was for snatching the house. She was tied to an iron pole in the backyard and beaten. The injured panchayat member is in hospital.  The action was taken in a case registered suo moto by the commission based on news.

Mass shooting at a church in Nigeria; Fifty people were killed

Abuja: At least 50 people have been killed in a shooting and bomb blast at a mosque in Nigeria. The shooting took place during Holy Mass at St. Francis Catholic Church. The gunmen opened fire on the worshipers and hurled explosives at them.

The church was reportedly attacked by a group of four people. Several women and children were reported killed in the attack. Many of the seriously injured are being treated in hospitals. Authorities said the death toll could rise further as the injuries were serious.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Pope Francis has expressed his condolences on the death of the people. Nigerian President
Mohammed Buhari also condemned the attack.

26 killed as bus plunges into Ravine

Uttarkashi buss accident

Uttarkashi: At least 26 people were killed when a bus plunged into a ravine near Uttarkashi Dam in Uttarakhand. Two people were injured. The bus was carrying 28 pilgrims from Panna district of Madhya Pradesh to Yamunotri.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhomi said the local government and SDRF teams were involved in the rescue operation and the injured were being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The district administration has been directed to provide proper treatment to the injured and expedite the rescue operation. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said arrangements have been made to treat the injured and transport the bodies to Madhya Pradesh.
