Kozhikode: A massive transfer in the case of Sajjevan, a native of Kalleri, who was taken into custody by the Vadakara police, collapsed and died in the station premises.

All the policemen of Vadakara police station have been transferred. Departmental action was taken against 66 policemen following the instructions of the Chief Minister.

Three people, including the SI, had been suspended earlier in the case of the death of the youth who was taken into custody. Vadakara S.I.M. Nijesh, ASI Arun and civil police officer Girish who was on Parav duty were suspended.

Koloth Sajjeev (32), a native of Vilyapally Kalleri, who was brought to the station in connection with a car accident case, collapsed and died in the courtyard of the Vadakara police station on the 14th night. In connection with the vehicle collision, the activist and his friends were involved in an argument with the occupants of the opposite vehicle. Then the police came and shifted them to the station. The case, which was first handed over to the district crime branch, was ordered to be handed over to the state crime branch on Saturday. The case is being investigated by a team led by State Crime Branch SP Moiteen Kuti.

The report given by the special branch said that the police had failed in the death of the youth. DIG Rahul R Nair had suspended Vadakara SI, ASI and civil police officer who was on security duty pending investigation in the assessment of police negligence in the death. Later, the investigation was handed over to a team led by Rural District Crime Branch DySP R Haridasan. The new team was assigned while the investigation under the leadership of DYSP was in progress.

Even though he collapsed, he was not taken to the hospital.

Sajeev and his friends were taken into custody after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with another vehicle. However, friends say that SI was beating Sajeev for being drunk. With this, Sajjevan collapsed in front of the station. The relatives alleged that Sajjevan, who was suffering from chest pain, told the police about this, but was kept at the station for three and a half hours saying that it was a gas problem.

The police did not agree to go to the hospital. Even though there was a police vehicle, the police were not ready to take him in it or call an ambulance. The auto workers, who saw him collapsing, called an ambulance and rushed him to the Vadakara Cooperative Hospital. Those who were with him revealed that he had died by then.

Kochi: Bishop Antony Kariyil, Metropolitan Vicar of Ernakulam-Angamaly Diocese has resigned following the Syro Malabar Church dispute. The bishop handed over the letter, written in his own handwriting, to the Vatican ambassador. The announcement of the resignation will be made at the synod meeting in August. Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese is tipped to shift to administrative mode. The Vatican’s ambassador to India had come to Kochi to meet the bishop in person who was not ready to resign despite the letter. The meeting with the Vatican Ambassador and Bishop Antony Kiriyl was in the presence of Bishop Kuryan Mathtikandathil.
Last day, the Vatican sent a notice to Bishop Anthony Kariyil asking him to resign. The metropolitan vicar summoned him to Delhi and issued a notice asking him to resign. Bishop Antony Kariyil supported the priests who took a stand against the cardinal on occasions such as the land deal and the dispute over the unified mass offering. From the beginning Anthony Kariyil’s position was that he would not support the unification of the Eucharist. It was also stated that the public mass will continue in Ernakulam-Angamali Diocese. Cardinal Mar George Alencheri’s proposal to hold a renewed Mass cannot be implemented. The Pope granted complete indulgence. The bishop had sent a letter to the bishops of the Synod pointing out this. Mar George Alencheri had issued a circular with a strict instruction that all the bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church should offer a unified communion as per the decision of the Synod.
At the same time, the anti-cardinal lay organization has given a warning that if the bishop is removed from his position by using his authority, a strong protest will be started. The anti-cardinal lay organization has criticized that the Vatican ambassador is trying to save Cardinal Alencheri from the land scam case by suppressing the Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese.
