High Court stays Civic Chandran’s anticipatory bail

Kozhikode:  Anticipatory bail granted to writer Civic Chandran in sexual harassment complaint stayed. The High Court stayed the order of the Kozhikode court granting anticipatory bail. The High Court said that no arrest should be made.

The Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court granted bail in the case registered on the complaint filed by writer, a native of Mukkam. The complaint is that the writer who came to Kozhikode for the book launch on April 17 assaulted the woman. The Koilandi police have registered a case under the charges of rape and insulting women.

Kashmir controversy; FIR against KT Jaleel

One-time registration in UPSC

New Delhi: UPSC has started a one-time registration facility. Aspirants seeking government jobs can henceforth apply for various recruitment exams through a single registration.
Once the registration of a candidate is complete, the information will be stored securely on the Commission’s servers, UPSC said.

Candidates who want to apply for further examinations of the Union Public Service Commission have to register themselves on OTR (One Time Registration) platform by filling in personal details. Earlier, one had to fill in the personal details repeatedly every time they applied. “Various examinations are conducted every year for various departments and institutions of the central government. Many candidates apply for the same.

Those who complete the one-time registration will not need to re-enter basic personal information while applying for each subsequent examination. At the time of online registration for the exams, 70 percent of the information to be provided by the candidates will be pre-filled. This method will save time and avoid making mistakes by filling in haste. The registration process can be completed on the commission’s websites https://upsc.gov.in and https://upsconline.nic.in.

Kochi: High Court grants bail to YouTuber Suraj Palakaran. The action was taken in the case of insulting Dalit women through social media. The bail was granted by a bench of Justice Mary Joseph. The YouTuber approached the High Court after the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court rejected the bail plea. The case against the YouTuber is that he made bad remarks against the Dalit woman who complained against crime editor TP Nandakumar.

The High Court had earlier dismissed the anticipatory bail application and observed that the provisions of the Prevention of Atrocities Against Scheduled Tribes Act would remain. Suraj Palakkaran surrendered to the police after his anticipatory bail application was rejected.

Sexual harassment case; High Court notice to Civic Chandran

Kochi:  High Court notice to Civic Chandran in an appeal filed by Survivor. The notice is questioning the anticipatory bail in the sexual assault case. Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court had questioned  Survivor including the remarks. The state government had also approached the High Court against the anticipatory bail of Civic Chandran. The High Court will hear Atijeevitha’s plea again next Monday.

The government had pointed out that the sessions court’s observations in the bail order were inappropriate. The observation is against the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The accused needs to be taken into custody to reveal the truth. In the appeal, the government also pointed out that the delay in filing the complaint was due to the mental stress experienced by the complainant.

Sessions Court Judge S Krishnakumar’s earlier order granting anticipatory bail in the first complaint against Civic Chandran was also controversial. While the anti-women remarks in the bail order in the second case are being discussed, the same judge’s first order is also being criticized.

New Delhi: The death toll due to rains in north Indian states has risen to 34. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir, which continue to receive heavy rains, have suffered a lot of damage due to landslides and floods. In Odisha, seven people, including five children, died and five others were injured. Thirteen people are missing in Uttarakhand and six in Himachal Pradesh.

Uttarakhand, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Bageshwar districts were the worst hit. Rivers Ganga and Yamuna have also seen dangerously high water levels.
