Sexual harassment case; High Court notice to Civic Chandran

Kochi:  High Court notice to Civic Chandran in an appeal filed by Survivor. The notice is questioning the anticipatory bail in the sexual assault case. Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court had questioned  Survivor including the remarks. The state government had also approached the High Court against the anticipatory bail of Civic Chandran. The High Court will hear Atijeevitha’s plea again next Monday.

The government had pointed out that the sessions court’s observations in the bail order were inappropriate. The observation is against the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The accused needs to be taken into custody to reveal the truth. In the appeal, the government also pointed out that the delay in filing the complaint was due to the mental stress experienced by the complainant.

Sessions Court Judge S Krishnakumar’s earlier order granting anticipatory bail in the first complaint against Civic Chandran was also controversial. While the anti-women remarks in the bail order in the second case are being discussed, the same judge’s first order is also being criticized.

High Court stays Priya Varghese’s appointment; A setback for the university

New Delhi: The death toll due to rains in north Indian states has risen to 34. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir, which continue to receive heavy rains, have suffered a lot of damage due to landslides and floods. In Odisha, seven people, including five children, died and five others were injured. Thirteen people are missing in Uttarakhand and six in Himachal Pradesh.

Uttarakhand, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Bageshwar districts were the worst hit. Rivers Ganga and Yamuna have also seen dangerously high water levels.

Lab test results now on mobile phones

Thiruvananthapuram: Medical college lab test results will now be available on mobile phones.

Health Minister Veena George said that this facility will be made available soon. It is being implemented in Thiruvananthapuram as the first phase. The action is part of the quality improvement initiative being implemented in the medical college.

As part of the project, the hospital’s lab sample collection center and test result center have been integrated. So patients in different blocks of the hospital will have their test results available in their respective blocks. Apart from this, the test results are also available on mobile phones. The minister also clarified that this service is available to patients who have passed phone number verification.

Mobile number verification can be done at the time of OP registration or at the time of billing at the lab. A link will be sent to the mobile as a test message. Click on the link to get the test result. The link will be active for 90 days.

Apart from this, the test results of the HDS, RGCB and ACR labs of the Medical College Hospital are available 24 hours a day from the unified result counter inside the hospital. Efforts are also in progress to make available the test results of the patients in the hospital’s treatment department in their own wards.

These activities are being implemented in the medical college as part of the e-health project of the health department. As a part of e-health, a system to buy OP tickets without standing in queue has been introduced in the medical college. Moreover, the date and token for follow-up treatment can be taken in advance with this system while visiting the doctor.

The Quality Improvement Initiative to improve the service quality of medical colleges was first started in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The supervisory committee is a team comprising senior doctors from other medical colleges. The main objective was to ensure that those who arrive at the emergency department receive expert examination and treatment without delay.

Many people mentioned the difficulty that the patients’ relatives have to go to the labs in different parts of the medical college. That is why this has also been included in the Quality Improvement Initiative, the minister said.

The prosecution had argued in the court that the accused had influenced the witnesses by violating the bail conditions of the High Court. The prosecution informed the court that the accused tried to influence the witnesses directly and through intermediaries.

Accused Maraikkar, Shamsuddin, Najeeb, and Sajeev tried to influence the witnesses more often. The court verdict has been examined including the phone records.

Kozhikode: Main accused in parallel telephone exchange case arrested. PP Shabir, a native of Chalapuram, Kozhikode, was arrested. Shabir, who was absconding for a year, was taken into custody by the district crime branch team in Wayanad.

The police had received information that Shabir used to disguise himself to visit a resort being built under a Benami name in Wayanad. He came with the name of Shamir. In this situation, the crime branch team was staying near the resort in disguise for days.

On Friday night, the accused reached the resort in Pozhuthana, Wayanad in a Haryana registration car and was arrested by the police. The case has been recommended to be investigated by the Enforcement Directorate.
