THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major move towards women’s empowerment and inclusive public transport, the Government of Kerala has officially launched the ‘Priyadarshini’ scheme. Under this landmark initiative, women and transgender individuals can now enjoy free travel in KSRTC ordinary buses across the state.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan officially inaugurated the Priyadarshini scheme at a grand event held at the Thiruvananthapuram Thampanoor KSRTC Complex at 9:00 AM.
Terming the launch a “proud moment,” Chief Minister Satheesan highlighted that the government succeeded in fulfilling this major electoral promise within its first month of coming to power.
“Free travel is not a favor or charity extended to women; it is a progressive scheme designed to create a massive socio-economic ripple effect. Women can now travel with pride and rightfully call it ‘Our Government’s Bus’,” the Chief Minister stated. He also assured the public that the scheme would not push KSRTC into a financial crisis.

Telangana: Popular South Indian star couple Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have officially fulfilled a heartfelt promise made earlier this year by distributing merit scholarships to 180 government school students in Telangana through ‘The Deverakonda Foundation.’
The special appreciation and scholarship ceremony took place in Thummanpet, a rural village in the Achampet Mandal, which holds deep sentimental value as the birthplace of Vijay’s father. Back in February, shortly after their grand wedding, the newlywed couple had envisioned an educational initiative aimed at empowering and motivating hardworking 9th and 10th-grade students from government schools in the region.
Sharing the news on social media alongside the list of beneficiaries, Vijay wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “In February, Rashmika and I announced the beginning of a little dream of ours… To reward all the hardworking students of 9th and 10th grade from Achampet Mandal of Telangana. Here is a list of the 180 kids who made their parents proud.”
Addressing the gathering of students and their families, Vijay emphasized that this initiative is just a humble beginning. He shared his vision of expanding the program gradually across the entire state of Telangana to reduce the financial burden on rural families and prevent school dropouts.
Rashmika also expressed her joy and emotional connection to the event, noting that it was her first time addressing a public gathering as ‘Rashmika Mandanna Deverakonda’ in her father-in-law’s ancestral village. The scholarship support includes financial aid along with essential educational materials and notebooks.

KOCHI: The long-standing land dispute at Paryathukavu has been amicably resolved, announced Higher Education Minister Roji M. John. The crucial decision was reached during a high-level meeting attended by the residents, landowners, and government officials held at the District Collector’s chamber.
Key Decisions Made in the Meeting:
Land and Housing: Paryathukavu residents will be allocated 5 cents of land each on the same property, along with necessary road access. The Minister confirmed that houses will be constructed and handed over to them within one year.
Interim Stay and Timber Clearance: Residents can continue living in their current homes until construction of the new houses is completed. Additionally, they will be permitted to cut and clear trees on the land they currently occupy.
Withdrawal of Cases: It was mutually agreed during the meeting to withdraw all legal cases registered in connection with the anti-eviction protests.
Legal Documentation: Both parties will sign a formal agreement within two days. This agreement will be submitted to the High Court on June 16 through the Advocate General.
The Minister further stated that the Muvattupuzha RDO (Revenue Divisional Officer) and the DYSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) have been officially tasked with ensuring smooth operations until the housing construction is fully completed.
The high-level meeting saw participation from V.P. Sajeendran MLA, District Collector G. Priyanka, Ernakulam Rural SP Sundarshan, Additional District Magistrate K. Manoj, District Panchayat Public Works Standing Committee Chairman P.A. Mukthar, Vazhakulam Block Panchayat Vice President Shameer Thukalil, Secretary P.M. Abdul Lathief, Kunnathunad Tahsildar M. Maya, protest committee members, people’s representatives, and other concerned department officials.

Jorhat, Assam: An Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft crashed and caught fire at the Air Force Station in Assam’s Jorhat on Saturday morning, killing five personnel on board.
According to initial reports, the twin-engine aircraft went down within the Air Force Station premises at approximately 10:00 AM during a routine sortie. The impact of the crash triggered a massive fire. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site to control the blaze and manage the crash scene.
The Air Force has confirmed five casualties in the mishap. The personnel who lost their lives have been identified as:

In an official statement, the IAF expressed deep condolences:

The exact cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained. The Air Force has launched a formal investigation to determine the technical or environmental factors behind the accident.
Reacting to the tragic incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “We are aware of the IAF transport aircraft accident in Jorhat. We are awaiting further details.”

The Antonov AN-32 is a Soviet-origin, twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft, often regarded as the “workhorse” of the Indian Air Force. Specifically tailored to meet Indian requirements, the IAF currently operates a fleet of around 100 of these tactical airlifters.
Designed to operate in extreme environments, the AN-32 excels at high-altitude airfields and hot tropical climates. It is capable of transporting up to 7.5 tons of cargo, 50 passengers, or 42 paratroopers, and plays a critical role in air-dropping supplies to remote and inaccessible regions.
