Mumbai terror attack: India asks Pakistan to hand over mastermind

New Delhi: India has asked Pakistan to hand over 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.  Indian Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi informed that the request has been submitted.

 He is currently in jail in a case of raising money for terrorist activities.  A case has been filed against Hafeez by Pakistan’s counter-terrorism department.  He has served jail time for engaging in such activities before.  Hafiz, who spent various periods of apprenticeship in and out of Pakistan, was moving freely in Pakistan and making inflammatory anti-Indian remarks.

 Hafiz Talha Saeed, son of Hafiz Saeed and Lashkar-e-Toiba leader Hafiz Talha Saeed, is about to contest the elections in Pakistan.  Talha is the second son of Lashkar-e-Toiba after Hafiz Saeed.  Last year, he was declared a terrorist by the Union Home Ministry under UAPA.

Kannapalli and Ganesh Kumar took charge as ministers

Thiruvananthapuram: K B Ganesh Kumar and Ramachandran Kadanapally took oath as ministers.  Governor Arif Muhammad Khan administered the oath at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.  Ramachandran Kadannapalli normally and Ganesh Kumar took the oath in the name of God.

 The opposition boycotted the ceremony.  Amid strong differences of opinion, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Governor shared the dais together. 

New Year celebration: Strict control in Fort Kochi

Kochi: Strict control in Fort Kochi in connection with New Year celebrations.  Private vehicles will not be allowed into Fort Kochi after 4 pm on 31st of this month.  After 12 night there will be bus service to return from Fort Kochi.

Vehicles can come from Vypin to Fort Kochi through ro-ro service till 4 pm.  This service will be completely stopped by 7 pm.

 There are also restrictions on the parade ground where papanji is lit to prevent stampede and accidents.  Barricades will be placed here and there will be strict control.  Parking will be completely prohibited.

The Eiffel Tower is temporarily closed

The Eiffel Tower was temporarily closed. The Eiffel Tower was closed when the workers went on strike over contract issues.  A board was also placed in front of the tower stating that the tower is closed due to the strike and apologizing for the inconvenience caused to tourists.

 The company spokesperson said that the reason for the strike was the contract between the company that controls the tower and the government.  The workers also said that the strike was symbolic for the protection of Gustave Eiffel’s great work on his memorial day itself.

 One of the most visited places in the world, the Eiffel Tower is open to tourists 365 days a year.  The tower will also be the main attraction of the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

Actor Vijayakanth passed away

Chennai: Tamil actor, former opposition leader and DMDK founder leader Vijayakanth passed away.  He was 71 years old.  He was being treated at a private hospital in Chennai today as his health condition became critical due to the covid infection.  The hospital authorities confirmed Vijayakanth’s death on Thursday morning. The actor who gave many superhits in Tamil had been suffering from ailments for some time.  He was a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly twice.  Wife Premalatha, children Shanmukha Pandian and Vijayaprabhakaran.

 Vijayakanth’s real name was Vijayaraj Alagarswamy.  Born on August 25, 1952 in Madurai to KN Alagar Swamy and Andal, Vijayakanth became the pulse of Tamil soil through Tamil cinema and later through politics.  In 1979, Vijayakanth made his debut as a counter-hero in the film Inikku Ilamai.  In 1981, he became the hero in the film Sattam Oru Utharai.  Later, he entered the hearts of the Tamil people with his roles in films like Sivappu Malli and Jathikkuru Neethi.  It is only after that that the epithet Puratchi Kalainjar comes.  Vijayakanth released 18 films in 1984 alone.  He last acted in 2010’s Virudagiri. It was directed by Vijayakanth himself.  Later in 2015, he appeared in a cameo role in the film Satabdam, starring his son Shanmukha Pandian.

 With the release of his 100th film Captain Prabhakaran, the title Captain became his own.  He won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actor in 1986, the Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimamani Award in 2001 and another government award in 2002.

A surcharge of 19 paise will also be levied on the January electricity bill

Thiruvananthapuram: A surcharge of 19 paisa may be levied on the January electricity bill as well.  The surcharge is levied to recover the excess money spent on purchasing electricity in November.  KSEB has ordered that a surcharge of 10 paise will be imposed directly.  The Regulatory Commission has sanctioned 9 paise.  This will be applicable on monthly bill and bi-monthly bill.

Bus-truck collision in Madhya Pradesh: 13 dead

Bhopal: 13 dead after bus collides with truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna.  It is also reported that 14 passengers suffered burns.  The accident took place on the Guna-Aaron route.

 Guna Superintendent of Police Vijayakumar Khatri said that the bus which collided with the truck went out of control and caught fire.

 The district collector directed to ensure expert treatment to the injured and conduct a detailed investigation into the accident.

Sabarimala Mandala Pooja 2023 Tomorrow

Pathanamthitta, December 26, 2023: The holy Sabarimala temple in Kerala prepares for the significant Mandala Pooja ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, December 27th. The procession carrying the sacred Thanka Anki ornament from Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple will reach Pampa by noon today. Deepaaradhana with Thangayangi is planned for 6:30 PM.

To facilitate the procession, darshan for devotees will be temporarily suspended from Nilakkal after 11 AM and from Pampa after 1 PM today.

In anticipation of heavy crowds, the virtual queue system has been adjusted to accommodate 64,000 pilgrims today and 70,000 tomorrow. Notably, for two consecutive days, the number of devotees climbing the 18 holy steps has surpassed 1 lakh. Yesterday alone, 1,00,337 devotees undertook the challenging climb. Stringent crowd control measures are in place, with pilgrims being guided in phases from Sabaripeetham to Sannidhanam.

Sanjay Kumar Singh has been elected as the President of the Wrestling Federation of India

Delhi: Sanjay Kumar Singh has been elected as the President of the Wrestling Federation of India. Sanjay Kumar got 40 out of 47 votes. Sanjay Kumar is a close aide of former chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sanjay Kumar is also the Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association. Everyone in the pro-Brij Bhushan panel won.

Elections were held for 15 posts including Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary General and Senior Vice President. Former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anita Sheoran and Sanjay Singh are in the race for the post of president of the Wrestling Federation of India.
