Sabarimala Makes Preparations for Makaravilakku: Crowd Control Measures Implemented

Pathanamthitta, India: As the holy festival of Makaravilakku 2024 approaches, Sabarimala Temple authorities have announced new crowd control measures to ensure the safety and smooth pilgrimage experience for devotees. These regulations come into effect on January 10th, 2024, aiming to streamline the flow of pilgrims during the peak season.

Limited Darshan Opportunities and Spot Booking Suspension:

  • No Spot Booking: Unlike previous years, pilgrims will not be able to book darshan slots at the Sannidhanam on a first-come, first-served basis. This decision aims to prevent overcrowding and potential safety concerns.
  • Virtual Queue Booking: Online virtual queue booking remains mandatory for Makaravilakku darshan. The limit for January 14th is set at 50,000, and for Makaravilakku day (January 15th) it is further reduced to 40,000.
  • Dates to Avoid for Crowds: Considering the anticipated heavy influx on January 14th and 15th, the Devaswom Board recommends that families with young children and senior citizens choose alternative dates for their pilgrimage to avoid congestion.

Alternative Dates and Enhanced Facilities:

  • Extended Darshan Window: To accommodate more devotees, darshan opportunities are extended from January 16th to 20th. During this period, additional facilities and crowd management strategies will be implemented.
  • Early Planning Emphasized: The Devaswom Board strongly encourages pilgrims to book their virtual queue slots well in advance to avoid disappointment and ensure a smooth darshan experience.

Safety and Security Remain Paramount:

These new measures are a proactive step by the Devaswom Board to prioritize the safety and well-being of pilgrims during the festive season. By managing the flow of devotees effectively, authorities aim to create a more secure and fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all.
