Siddharth’s death: Pookode University closed

Kalpatta: Pookode Veterinary University has been closed indefinitely due to ongoing protests over Siddharth’s death.  All the exams scheduled to be held in the college have been postponed.  The academic director informed that there will be no regular class from 5th to 10th and online classes will continue and the ladies hostel has also been closed.

 Meanwhile, all the students in the hostel where Siddharth was found hanging were suspended.  130 students who were in the hostel when Siddharth was beaten up were suspended for a week.  The action is for not reporting the beating to the authorities.  It was also decided to close the ladies hostel.  There was an investigation report of the Anti-Ragging Committee that 31 students of the hostel were involved in the violence against Siddhartha.  19 people who beat Siddharth have been banned from studying for three years.

Kalpatta: In connection with the death of Siddharth, a student of Pookod Veterinary College, all the students who were in the hostel at the time of the incident were suspended.  The reason for the suspension of the students is that they did not inform the concerned people about the beating of Siddharth.  A total of 130 students were in the hostel at the time of the beating.  The investigation found that 31 students in the hostel were involved in the attack on Siddharth.  Siddharth, who was crippled after being beaten up, has been expelled from the hostel for refusing to listen to his request to be taken to the hospital.

 They will not be able to write the internal exam.  The 10 people who called Siddharth from the house and beat him up have also been evicted.  They cannot write the exam for one year.  As part of evidence gathering, restrictions were imposed on the release of children from the campus.

 Others, including the girls, remained in the campus.  If all the accused are arrested in the case, this restriction will no longer exist.

KSU calls for educational shutdown in Kerala tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Students Union (KSU) has called for an educational shutdown in the state tomorrow, March 5, 2024, in protest against the police brutality during the march to the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) campus in Pookode, Wayanad.

The KSU protest march was held on March 4 to demand justice for J.S. Sidharthan, a second-year student of the university who was found dead inside the men’s hostel toilet on February 25. Sidharthan’s death was allegedly due to torture and mob trial by SFI activists on the campus.

The police resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas to disperse the protesters, injuring several students. KSU state president K.M. Sachindev and MSF state president P.K. Shafi were among those injured.

Thiruvananthapuram: The accused has been arrested in the case of the kidnapping of a couple’s child in Pettah.  A team led by DCP arrested one person from Kollam.  The police had received the crucial footages that gave hints about the accused in the case.  It is suggested that the arrested suspect is a Malayali.

 The accused was arrested from Kollam.  The baby went missing after sleeping with his parents on the roadside near All Saints College.  After nineteen long hours, child was found abandoned in a drainage more than six feet deep, 500 meters away.

Shahbaz Sharif Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second consecutive term.  Shahbaz was elected with 201 votes in the National Assembly, the Parliament of Pakistan.  Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said Shahbaz won as the representative of the PML-led coalition by securing 32 votes more than the absolute majority in the 336-member House.

 Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s prime ministerial candidate Omar Ayub Khan got only 92 votes.

 Shahbaz will take charge as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan.  Oath.  PML-N leader and Shahbaz’s brother Nawaz Sharif was the first to vote for the post of Prime Minister.

 Shahbaz became the Prime Minister for the first time in 2022.  Shahbaz’s victory came with the support of PPP, MQM-P, PML (Q), Balochistan Awami Party, PML (Z), IPP and National Party.  Shahbaz’s main challenge in the coming days will be to hold the alliance together.  Shahbaz will also need to work hard to improve the poor economic condition of the country.

SSLC exam to begin on March 4;  Evaluation from 3rd to 20th April

SSLC exam this year from March 4.  SSLC, THSLC and AHLC exams will be held at 2955 centers in the state.  4,27,105 students will write in regular category in 9 centers in Lakshadweep and 7 centers in Gulf region.  2,17,525 boys and 2,09,580 girls appear for the exam.  1,43,557 students from government schools, 2,55,360 students from aided schools and 28,188 students from unaided schools will appear for the exam.

 536 students in Gulf region and 285 in Lakshadweep region are appearing for the exam.  Apart from them, 26 people will write the exam under the old scheme (PCO).  Malappuram Education District in Malappuram Revenue District has the highest number of candidates, 28,180.  Kuttanad Education District in Alappuzha Revenue District has the lowest number of candidates with 1,843 candidates.

 The evaluation of answer sheets will be conducted in two phases from April 3 to 20 at 70 centralized evaluation camps across the state.  The first phase is from April 3 to 12.  The second phase will be held from April 15 to 20.

Postal vote facility now available for those above 85 years of age

Postal vote facility was provided for people above 80 years of age.  But it has been amended for those above 85 years of age.  Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul informed that those above 85 years of age whose names are in the voter list can use this facility.

 This gives an opportunity to those who are suffering from age-related diseases to vote without going to the polling station.

 The Union Law Ministry issued an order in this regard after seeking the opinion of the National Election Commission.  Those who want to vote in this way should submit an application to the Electoral Officer of the concerned constituency in the prescribed form within five days of receiving the election notification.

Do not seek votes based on caste, religion or language;  Election Commission with strict instructions

 New Delhi: The Election Commission has given strict instructions to the political parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.  The main suggestion is not to ask for votes based on caste, religion and language.  Do not insult Gods or devotion.  In the warning to the party, candidates and star campaigners, the commission states that strict action will be taken if the model code of conduct is violated.

 Do not use shrines for election campaigns.  Rather, political parties and leaders should try to improve the quality of election campaign through issue-based debates.  Do not make untrue statements or try to mislead voters.  Do not make any post that defames or insults the opponent.  The Election Commission also clarified that this directive is also applicable to social media.

Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, daughter of South Indian actor Sarath Kumar, got engaged to Art Gallery Owner Nicholai Sachdev in an intimate ceremony on March 1st. The couple has known each other for over 14 years, according to a Times Now News report.

The ceremony was a private affair, with only close family and friends in attendance. Varalaxmi is a South Indian actress who recently moved to Hyderabad from Chennai. She is known for her role in the movie Hanuman.

Kozhikode: Consumerfed will reduce the price of medicines and accessories available under Neethi Medical Scheme.  It has been decided to give 16 percent to 70 percent discount on medicines to patients.  The price reduction was announced on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Neethi Medical Scheme.

 On Sunday, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the marketing of Triveni brand products and announce new projects at Angamaly.  Consumerfed chairman M Mehboob said that there will be a 16 percent to 70 percent price reduction.
