The investigation is progressing in Ernakulam.
Four employees suspended over complaint of tying up a student
Kannur: Four employees of Arangattery Sisumithra Buds School in Mangattidam panchayat have been suspended following a complaint by a parent that a student was tied up. Principal PV Rekha, teachers K Prameela, O Mridula and ayah KP Anandavalli were suspended. The decision was taken at a meeting of the panchayat administrative committee.
Panchayat president PC Gangadharan informed that a three-member committee has been assigned to conduct further investigation into the complaint.
Vespa 125cc scooter launched
Leading vehicle manufacturer Piaggio India has launched the new Vespa 125cc scooters. The new 2025 Vespa range has been updated with changes in style, colors, and features. The company has launched four scooters in the new Vespa range. The Vespa and Vespa S are the affordable variants. While the Vespa Tech and Vespa S Tech are the top-end models. The base variant Vespa is priced at Rs 1.33 lakh and the S model is priced at Rs 1.36 lakh. The top-end variants are priced at Rs 1.92 lakh and Rs 1.96 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. In terms of performance, the 125cc single-cylinder engine can produce 9.5 bhp of power at 7100 rpm and 10.1 Nm of torque at 5600 rpm. Some minor changes have also been made to the CVT gearbox. The new Vespa 125cc range will go on sale from February 25. Deliveries will begin from March.
Places of Worship Act: Petitions to be heard on Monday
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear petitions related to the 1991 Places of Worship Act on Monday. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and K V Viswanathan is hearing a batch of petitions both in favour and against the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of August 15, 1947, which seeks to maintain the religious character of all places of worship, except the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid.
The main petition was filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyaya against certain provisions of the 1991 Act. The apex court had agreed to hear a petition filed by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on January 2, seeking strict implementation of the Act.
The Chief Justice’s bench, which intervened in various petitions related to this law, had on December 12 stayed all proceedings, including the admission of petitions claiming rights over Muslim mosques and dargahs. The stay is pending until an interim order or final judgment is pronounced on the petitions regarding the law.
There are 18 cases in the courts by various Hindu organizations seeking a survey to determine the religious nature of 10 mosques, including Gyanvapi in Varanasi, Shahi Eidgah Masjid in Mathura, and Shahi Juma Masjid in Sambhal. Further proceedings in all of these have been stayed.
The court said that the main dispute is regarding sections three and four of the 1991 Act. Section three deals with the conversion of a place of worship. Section four includes the declaration of religious nature and the legal powers of the courts.
Chendamangalam massacre case; Police file charge sheet
The police have filed a charge sheet in the Chendamangalam massacre case. The thousand-page charge sheet was filed in the North Paravur Magistrate’s Court. The charge sheet states that the accused Ritu Jayan committed atrocities with a previous enmity. The investigation team filed the charge sheet in the Paravur Magistrate’s Court on the thirtieth day after the massacre that shook the country. The thousand-page charge sheet includes 112 witnesses and 60 pieces of evidence.
The police have found that the brutal massacre was caused by an unquenchable hatred towards the family of neighbor Jithin Bose. Ritu Jayan is a drug addict. But the charge sheet also states that he has no mental problems.
On January 16, Ritu killed his neighbors, Pereppadam Kattiparambil Venu, his wife Usha, and his daughter Vinisha, by hitting them on the head with an iron pipe. Jithin Bose, who was attacked along with them, is undergoing treatment in a critical condition. The children who witnessed the brutal act, CCTV footage, and scientific evidence were crucial in the investigation. A 17-member team led by Munambam DySP S Jayakrishnan investigated the case and quickly filed the charge sheet.
Neyyattinkara Gopan’s Samadhi; Postmortem report fails to confirm cause of death
Thiruvananthapuram: The postmortem report on the death of Neyyattinkara Gopan Swamy has been released. The report says that there were about seventy-five percent blockages in the heart arteries, and bruises on the nose, head and behind the ears. However, the report also states that there were no deep cuts or injuries on the body.
The report says that there was no abnormal smell in the abdomen and that the organs, including the small intestine, were in a state of decomposition.
Samples have been collected from all parts of the body for chemical testing. The cause of death can be confirmed only when the results of the chemical test of the internal organs are released.

Srinagar: A police constable, a teacher and a forest department employee were dismissed from their jobs in Jammu and Kashmir after they were found to have terrorist links. The action was taken by Governor Manoj Sinha. Jammu and Kashmir Police Constable Firdous Ahmed Bhat, who was arrested in May 2024, Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, a teacher in the district jail, and Nisar Ahmed Khan, who works in the Forest Range Office, were dismissed. Their terrorist links were found in an investigation conducted by the police and intelligence agencies. Firdous Ahmed Bhat and Muhammad Ashraf Bhat are members of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Sources also said that Nisar Ahmed Khan helped Hizbul Mujahideen.
The action was taken in the wake of several incidents along the Line of Control in Jammu division in recent days. On February 11, two soldiers were killed in a powerful IED blast by terrorists in Akhnoor sector of Jammu and earlier, a soldier was injured in cross-border firing in Rajouri sector. This followed on February 13 when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had directed officials to take strictest action against those who provide financial and material support to terrorists. This action comes in the wake of this.
Second US flight carrying illegal immigrants arrived; 119 people in the group
New Delhi: The second flight carrying illegal immigrants from India and those being deported from the US landed in Amritsar, Punjab on Saturday (February 15) night. The flight that land on Saturday will have 119 people.
Of these, 67 are from Punjab itself. 33 are from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Ragging: Nursing College Principal and Asst. Professor suspended
In connection with the ragging incident that took place in the Kottayam Government Nursing College hostel, Principal Prof. Sulekha A T and Asst. Professor Ajeesh P Mani, who was in charge of the warden, were suspended pending investigation for their lapses in preventing and intervening in the ragging. The order also directed the immediate removal of the housekeeper cum security. The action was taken following an investigation conducted by the Director of the Medical Education Department following the instructions of Health Minister Veena George.
Defamatory remarks against the army: Rahul Gandhi summoned
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned in a case of making defamatory remarks against the army. The summons is from a Lucknow court in Uttar Pradesh. He has been directed to appear in court on March 24.
The big controversy was the remarks made by Rahul during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022. The complaint against Rahul was filed by advocate Vivek Tiwari on behalf of former director of the Border Roads Organization Uday Shankar Srivastava, who holds the rank equivalent to an army colonel.
Tiwari’s argument is that Rahul’s remarks made on December 16, 2022 about the clash between the Indian and Chinese armies on December 9, 2022, are defamatory of the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, a special court had heard another defamation case against Rahul, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on February 11, for his remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka assembly elections.
