Prominent personalities from the Malayalam film industry have extended their strong support to students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against NEET-UG question paper leaks and evaluation anomalies in CBSE exams.
Taking to social media, Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of superstar Mohanlal, sharply criticized the severe administrative crackdown on the student demonstrators. Sharing statements highlighting the use of tear gas, lathi charges, internet shutdowns, and mass barricades, Vismaya questioned the response of authorities:
“You don’t have to agree with the protesters, accept their demands, or even like the organizations involved. But when citizens raise their voices and the response is heavy-handed suppression instead of dialogue, every single person needs to ask what kind of democracy we are heading toward. Is this truly how a democratic nation should respond to its own citizens?”
Actor Tovino Thomas also expressed solidarity with the peaceful protesters, stating that suppressing the youth damages the very foundation of democracy. “Dissenting voices are not a threat to democracy; they are one of its fundamental pillars. My politics is humanity, and my faith is peace,” Tovino wrote.
Actress Parvathy Thiruvothu shared footage from the Jantar Mantar demonstrations on Instagram, urging people not to remain silent when citizens’ rights are being trampled upon. Directors and actors including Rima Kallingal, Aashiq Abu, and Prachi Tehlan have also joined in condemning the harsh police action against students.
