Kollam: Kollam Corporation has imposed a huge fine on CPM for erecting flags and flex boards in the city in connection with the state conference. The Kollam Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 3.5 lakh in a notice issued to the district secretary.

The fine is for erecting 20 flex boards and 2500 flags in connection with the state conference. The corporation had not taken a decision on paying the fee and sought permission. The CPM also did not inform the decision on paying the fine. The corporation is governed by the LDF governing body.

The High Court had strongly criticized the CPM on Thursday, stating that it cannot turn a blind eye when it comes to Kollam. The court had said that more than 200 complaints were received against the erection of the boards and the complainants were afraid to even name those responsible. The corporation then imposed a fine on the CPM.

Kozhikode: MS Solutions CEO Muhammed Shuhaib surrendered in the question paper leak case. Muhammed Shuhaib surrendered at the Kozhikode Crime Branch office. The surrender came shortly after the High Court denied him anticipatory bail. The Crime Branch announced that Shuhaib will be questioned in detail. The Crime Branch had arrested the peon of the aided school who leaked the question paper the other day. The High Court rejected Muhammed Shuhaib’s anticipatory bail application this morning. Muhammed Shuhaib is the first accused in the case. Muhammed Shuhaib’s anticipatory bail application in the Christmas 10th class exam question paper leak case had earlier been rejected by the Kozhikode District Court. He then approached the High Court with an anticipatory bail application.  The investigation into the case is ongoing in the case of Plus One Maths and SSLC English exam questions being leaked through MS Solutions. The Education Department has also initiated steps to find the source of the question paper leak. Education Minister V Sivankutty has instructed the Director of General Education to initiate department-level proceedings. The Crime Branch had arrested Abdul Nasser, a peon at the Unaided School in Melmuri, Malappuram, who leaked the question paper to MS Solutions, the other day. The Crime Branch found that he was the one who leaked the question paper to MS Solutions teacher Fahad. Fahad had previously worked in the school where Abdul Nasser works. It is reported that the question paper was leaked based on this relationship.

A special bench will be set up in the High Court to hear ragging cases. The Chief Justice’s action is considering a public interest litigation filed by the Legal Services Authority. The court is introducing a new system in the context of the ragging cases reported recently in the state. A two-member bench will be set up. The court will issue a notification today itself on which judges will be included in the special bench. The new bench will hold its first sitting tomorrow itself. Several ragging cases, including the one in Kottayam Nursing College, have reached the High Court in the recent past.

Meanwhile, another student has been arrested in the Thamarassery Shahabas murder case. A 10th grader who was part of the gang that beat him up has been arrested. Meanwhile, the knife used to beat Shahabas, who was killed in Thamarassery the other day, was recovered. The police team led by SHO Sayuj recovered the weapons from the house of one of the accused in Thamarassery. The investigation team conducted searches at the houses of the five accused around noon today to find weapons and more digital evidence. During the search, 4 mobile phones and a laptop were recovered. These have been sent for forensic examination.

One more student in custody in the Thamarassery Shahabas murder case. A 10th grader who was part of the gang has been arrested. The police are investigating the role of more students. Shahabas’ father Iqbal said that he has full faith in the government and the police.

In the Venjaramoodu massacre case, accused Afan has been shifted from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College to jail. Afan was taken to Poojappura Central Jail. Currently, Afan’s arrest has been recorded in three cases. In this, the arrest was recorded yesterday in the case of murdering Afan’s younger brother and girlfriend Farsana.
