A special bench will be set up in the High Court to hear ragging cases. The Chief Justice’s action is considering a public interest litigation filed by the Legal Services Authority. The court is introducing a new system in the context of the ragging cases reported recently in the state. A two-member bench will be set up. The court will issue a notification today itself on which judges will be included in the special bench. The new bench will hold its first sitting tomorrow itself. Several ragging cases, including the one in Kottayam Nursing College, have reached the High Court in the recent past.
Meanwhile, another student has been arrested in the Thamarassery Shahabas murder case. A 10th grader who was part of the gang that beat him up has been arrested. Meanwhile, the knife used to beat Shahabas, who was killed in Thamarassery the other day, was recovered. The police team led by SHO Sayuj recovered the weapons from the house of one of the accused in Thamarassery. The investigation team conducted searches at the houses of the five accused around noon today to find weapons and more digital evidence. During the search, 4 mobile phones and a laptop were recovered. These have been sent for forensic examination.
