Mamta as the Boss and Dileep as her assistant, a posh office with the usual filmi kind of office guys (and gals too), clashes between the boss and the assistant- all this is what the trailers led you to expect out of Jeethu Joseph’s new film ‘My Boss’. So you don’t just know what to expect, you also know that the story would move on predictable lines. Yes, that’s what ‘My Boss’ is. Since I expected the film to be on these lines, I should say I was not at all disappointed. Time pass stuff, I’d say, though the comedy doesn’t work out at times. Nothing more about it, it’s just passable fare, a neatly done entertainer which of course could have been much better.
Manu Varma (Dileep) has come to Mumbai to join as an executive assistant to Priya S Nair (Mamta), who heads the marketing team in a leading company. It’s his first job and he doesn’t know that Priya is an extremely difficult kind of boss. No one likes to work under this young, dynamic lady who’s an Australian citizen with her roots in Kerala. She’s a real headache for her people and is anything but soft-spoken.
So Manu joins up as Priya’s assistant and the story takes off from here. Not divulging the details not just because it kills the interest but also because you can very well imagine how things would end up.
So, as said earlier, there is not much to say about the plot and the treatment except that it’s packaged well. The humour element could have been worked out better, especially the humour pertaining to the supporting characters. There are also things that seem totally out of place and illogical. But enjoyable fare ‘My Boss’ certainly is.
Performance
If you ask me which other actress could have played the boss so well, I think I don’t have an answer. Mamta has done her part really well and in many ways the film belongs to her. Dileep does his part in his characteristic style and is good as well. Of the others Saikumar deserves mention and plays Manu’s father convincingly.
Technical aspects
Cinematography by Anil Nair and art-direction by Sabu Ram suit the mood and tempo of the film. Editing is by V.Saajan.
Music
I don’t think I remember any of the songs in ‘My Boss’. In fact this seems to have become the norm with most films these days; songs are very much forgettable. “Enthinennariyilla…” seems more like an album song and doesn’t get appreciated. The background score is good.
Script
Nothing outstanding about the script, which is also by Jeethu Joseph. Just feel like mentioning that he could and should have handled the comedy sequences better, especially the ‘Saree scene’ and some other scenes. But in total he has done a ‘clean’ job.
Direction
Jeethu Joseph showed promise with his debut film ‘Detective’, he earned success with his second film ‘Mummy and Me’ and now again he is likely to earn a hit in ‘My Boss’. But it seems his graph is going down, on the creative side and the quality side. I feel he should try a different genre next time. Well, as for ‘My Boss’, all I can say is he has done a film that can be enjoyed and forgotten.
Verdict- A film that can be enjoyed and forgotten. Predictable, but OK for time pass.

Director M.Mohanan has been saying that ‘916’ is about relationships and the purity of relationships. He has also been saying that it’s a simple film. But watch the film and you’d realize that it lacks both purity as well as simplicity.
‘916’ would have been simple and ‘pure’ if M.Mohanan had handled the script a bit more carefully. There are some unwanted elements which, if done away with, would have made the film much more enjoyable.
‘916’ revolves around Dr.Harikrishnan (Anoop Menon) and his daughter Meera (Malavika Menon). After being separated from his wife, Harikrishnan had brought up his daughter with utmost care and love. He is both a father and mother to Meera, who in turn takes care of her father like a loving mother. She makes sure he sticks to his diet and does his exercises and other things on time. But all this goes wrong when a young guy named Prashanth (Asif) enters their lives. Prashanth gets close to Meera and very soon Dr. Harikrishnan finds that his daughter has turned secretive and indifferent. From there develops the plot.
M.Mohanan’s earlier films ‘Katha Parayumbol’ and ‘Manikyakallu’ had messages delivered loud and clear and were thoroughly watchable movies too. But with ‘916’, the message element seems to get sort of blurred due to a script that’s not up to the mark. Some elements, like the Pizza song and the Kottayam Nazeer sequence seems totally out of place and there is some amount of lag too. Other than these, ‘916’ is a film that conveys a message that’s very much relevant in our times of strained and complicated relationships.
But with the flaws that have hampered the flow of the film, it’s doubtful whether the audience in Kerala would accept the film. As such, the message element goes totally irrelevant; it won’t be conveyed unless people come to see the film. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen.
In short, ‘916’ is just average stuff, though it’s a film made with good intentions.
Performance
‘916’ won’t be remembered for outstanding or memorable performances. Anoop Menon, Asif, Malavika Menon, Mukesh etc have done justice to their respective roles, but there is nothing that could be called remarkable.
Technical aspects
The technical aspects are all in tune with the mood and tempo of the film.
Music
Songs composed by M.Jayachandran are not bad, but may not have a lasting impact. The background score jells with the theme and the mood.
Script
M.Mohanan should have worked on the script a bit more carefully. That would have made the film much better.
Direction
Nothing much to say, except that M.Mohanan should have seen to it that the film is packaged well. There are elements that doesn’t sync with the theme of the film and which have been handled in a poor manner. The Pizza song for instance. Seems like M.Mohanan was either in a hurry to finish the film or was a bit confused as regards putting in elements that he though were needed to ensure a ‘decent run’. That however seems to have misfired. Let’s hope ‘916’ gets a decent run, for the sake of the theme, which is relevant.
Verdict- Not up to the mark; no ‘916 purity’…

Amrita TV Fires Up Diwali With An Engrossing Display Of Programmes
On November 13th , as Diwali tattoos the country from head to toe in a blazing design of golden flickering flames, Amrita TV joins in the festivities with a chart of programmes that punctures the day with the indelible ink of entertainment.

Igniting the small screen with his presence and putting more shine into India’s ‘brightest’ festival at 12 noon is superstar Mammootty in Face To Face With Mammootty, a sunny chat session with the cast and crew of his brand new flick, ‘Face To Face’. Directed by V.M Vinu, it is an investigative thriller boasting of a glittering star cast that includes Roma Asrani, Ragini Dwivedi, Vineeth Kumar,Siddique, Kalabhavan Mani etc.
Setting a match to our curiosity, amidst the occasional staccato burst of crackers rending the air, comes the TV premiere of Nadabrahmam at 2 pm which introduced Kaushik Babu, who set the screens ablaze as Sri Ayyappan in a mega serial of the same name. Kaushik who appears in a double role, proves that he has a flare for acting in his debut film and is cast opposite newcomer Mahalekshmi, along with Jagathy Sreekumar, Sai Kumar etc.
At 7 pm, when the diyas which bring the glow of joy to every street ,appears to strew the countryside with a cache of jewels, Super Dancer Junior-5 presents a brace of polished Diwali -themed dances, from Boney gifted choreographer; Mohiniyattom performance by Deepa Kartha, famed dance proponent and classical moves from Malavika, Bhagyalekshmi, Riddhima, all Super Dancer finalists.
When finally the firecrackers spray the night sky with acrylic hues that explode into a million sparks of brilliance, another Diwali would cascade down in a trail of bright specks and vanish
into the cinders of our consciousness.
