Thrissur: An investigation has been started in the case of the death of a student due to rabies after she was bitten by a pet dog at her neighbor’s house. Under the leadership of DMO KP Reetha, they went to the house in Mankara and collected the information.
Sugunan-Sindhu’s daughter Srilakshmi (19) died at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital on Friday at Manjakkara West. She is a student of BCA in Coimbatore College. The DMO will submit a report to the health department on Saturday.

There is no fault in giving the vaccine to the student. On the day of the bite, the wound was cleaned. The vaccine is given at regular intervals. It was found that the dog was not vaccinated.

On the day the student was bitten, the locals beat the dog to death because it bit the owner of the house and two others. Therefore, the behavior of the dog cannot be studied. Can’t test for rabies. The details of those who interacted with the dog on that day have been collected. Arriving at Srilakshmi’s house, preventive measures were taken.

Those who came in contact with the patient and the bitten dog will be vaccinated. A doctor at the Medical College Hospital who sustained a minor injury during the treatment has been given an injection. Srilakshmi was bitten on the fingers by the pet dog on May 30. She immediately reached Palakkad District Hospital and took the vaccine. As there was more wound, she went to Thrissur Medical College Hospital and injected serum.

Then three more doses of vaccine were taken. Two of these were taken from Palakkad District Hospital and one from a private hospital. All the vaccines were received by June twenty-sixth, but the fever started the next day.

She was treated at a private hospital in Mankara and Thrissur Medical College but died in the early hours of the previous day. After the incident, the Rapid Response Team, formed for the investigation on the directives of the Health Minister, met on Friday and assessed the details of the treatment given to Sree Lakshmi.
