Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who spent 13 months in jail in a money laundering case, has been released from Mumbai jail. Anil Deshmukh was finally arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on November 2, 2021, after more than 12 hours of interrogation. Deshmukh was released from jail after he was granted bail in the ED case and later in the CBI case.
Anil Deshmukh was granted bail by a bench of MS Karnik of the Bombay High Court. Anil Deshmukh was released from Arthur Road Jail on Wednesday afternoon. “I have complete faith in the judiciary…. The High Court has observed that I have been implicated in a false case,” Anil Deshmukh said after being released from a Mumbai jail, news agency PTI reported.
Ahead of his release, NCP leaders including Supriya Sule, state president Jayant Patil, Ajit Pawar, and Chhagan Bhujbal gathered outside Arthur Road Jail to welcome him. NCP leaders waiting outside the jail said that Deshmukh had been in jail for over a year and none of the charges against him could be proved in court.
