MediaOne’s broadcast rights were blocked; The High Court stayed the proceedings

Kochi: The high court stayed the action of the central government in blocking the broadcasting rights of the Media One channel. The High Court stayed the proceedings for two days. Meanwhile, MediaOne resumed broadcasting. The case is set to be heard on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the court sought an explanation from the central government on MediaOne’s plea. The CPI (M) state secretariat has condemned the Centre’s move to coerce the media.

This morning, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned the broadcast of the Media One channel. The central government explained that the move was for security reasons. The central government did not disclose the details of the decision to suspend the transmission to the channel. This is the second time the channel has been banned by the central government.

Media One has approached the High Court alleging that it is an encroachment on media freedom. A single bench headed by Justice N Nagaresh stayed the proceedings of the Central Government for two days.
