KOCHI: In a significant development regarding the tragic accident in Cheranalloor where a speeding Mercedes-Benz car struck and killed a scooter rider, police have registered a case against the father of the 17-year-old driver—who is an Additional Sessions Judge.
The case has been filed against the judge for allowing his minor son to drive the vehicle, which is registered in the judge’s name. Additionally, following serious allegations raised by the family of the deceased victim, Jayapalakrishnan, authorities have decided to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the incident.
Family Alleges Police Bias and Delayed Justice
Bhadrakeerthi, the daughter of the deceased, along with other family members, strongly criticized the police for what they described as a lenient and partial approach toward the accused.
- Unequal Treatment: The family pointed out that while they had to wait for nearly 12 hours to receive Jayapalakrishnan’s body from the Medical College mortuary, the 17-year-old responsible for the accident was granted station bail within moments.
- Protest to Continue: Although the minor was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board under sections including Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and granted bail considering he had no prior criminal record, the family stated they have lost faith in the police. They vowed to continue their protest until they secure justice for their father.
