The police have added more serious charges against Govindachamy, the prime accused in the Soumya murder case, for damaging public property. The new charge, PDPP 3(1) R/W 21, replaces the earlier, less severe BNS 225(B). Authorities allege he deliberately sabotaged high-security infrastructure inside the central jail.
An internal DIG report on his escape is expected to be submitted to the Jail Superintendent soon. Preliminary findings indicate serious security lapses in Kannur Central Jail, and more officers are likely to face disciplinary action. The police are also recording statements from Govindachamy’s fellow inmates and suspended jail officials.
A video of his jail escape has surfaced, clearly showing a total security failure. However, police say there’s no evidence he received outside help.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prison Officer Abdul Sattar from the Kottarakkara Special Sub Jail has been suspended for sharing confidential information with the media after the escape.
