Thiruvananthapuram: Fuel prices are still high. Petrol price was hiked by 30 paise and diesel by 27 paise on Monday. Petrol prices have crossed Rs 85 in many parts of the state. In Thiruvananthapuram, petrol is priced at Rs 85.75 per liter.
In Kochi, petrol is currently priced at Rs 83.96 paise and diesel is at Rs 78.01. Last day, petrol was priced at 27 paise and diesel at 31 paise. Public sector oil companies have been raising fuel prices in the wake of rising international crude prices.When the Modi government came to power in 2014, the excise duty on petrol was Rs 9.48 per liter and Rs 3.56 per liter on diesel. At present, it is Rs 32.98 and Rs 31.83 respectively. About 70 percent of the current fuel price is taxable.
