Kottayam: Bird flu confirmed in Kottayam. Bird flu has been confirmed in Arpookara, Vechur, and Neendoor in the Kottayam district. H5N1 was confirmed at the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases Lab in Bhopal following mass deaths of ducks and chickens kept in paddocks.
About 7,400 birds within one kilometer of the area where the disease was detected will be euthanized and buried under the supervision of the Animal Welfare Department. Disinfection steps will be taken here.
The District Collector has ordered to ban the sale and sale of chicken, duck, quail, and other poultry eggs, meat, and manure (manure) in Vaikom, Kottayam, Etumanur municipalities, Vechur, Kuruppanthara, Thalayazham, Thalayolaparambu, Kallara, Neendoor, TV Puram, Udayanapuram, Kumarakom, Arpookara, Aymanam, Athirampuzha and village panchayats for three days from December 23.
